Got tired of 10.6 but refused to install Lion on my MBP so, in a slightly different direction, I went with Linux Mint.

how does that affect battery life?

It affects it a bit but it's not a dealbreaker for me as my laptop is usually plugged in as my battery is kind of dying and I needed a new one to begin with. In OS X I was getting about an hour and 40 minutes on a full charge. In linux I'm getting about an hour and 20 minutes. I'm sure with some more tweaking I could get that to match OS X, though what I really need is a new battery.

Huh, I would have thought it would be the other way around. Nice though, I've thought about changing to Linux before for the same reasons. Still up for debate. Convince me?
