Yeah, I've always just tried hacking around in my Mac to do it - not the safest I don't think... ;) Candy Bar isn't free though, is it? Hell, I might just grab it regardless...

Not free, but if you ever do icon replacement on system icons, it's the app to have. Highly worth the money, IMO.

Seeing all of you changing your icons around, it makes me want to also, but I'm afraid of one thing...
If I want to revert back to the originals, can I, will I have to go searching around on google for hours to find them, or will the original be kept on my system somewhere?
Thanks

CandyBar will let you revert back easily (just playing with it right now for the first time!) and if you change any manually (by cutting + pasting) you can always revert back by simply deleting the icon from the "Get Info" menu.

So nope, no worries.

oh, yeah, where can I get these icons

Here's my dock. I hate that grey background Apple put on there, so I went for the invisible look. Only problem is that with my Christmas lights it kinda hides sometimes.

I don't see anything, or is that the point?

Is it really necessary to have that Safari icon there, Lacero? :p

I think it's proof reverse psychology on the compensation comments ;)

Less is more is the message attempting to be driven here....

I've been trying to download icons, but it seems most of them are packaged with something that ends with .sit (I think), but stuffit expander won't expand these, what can?

Not sure what the problem is, as StuffIt Expander works on .sit packages... Do you receive an error? If not, perhaps it has been "silently" unpacked in the same directory into a folder with the same name?

I don't get an error, but as soon as it is done downloading, I see the stuffit icon appear in my dock, and then within a second it just goes away. Maybe it is expaning the package, but then where is it putting them? Usually it just puts them on my desktop, but nothing is there?
I've tried it with several different .sit packages, and it does the same thing with all of them.

My latest after a nice system overhaul. I changed it all up and decided to set penguins throughout just because they are fun to look at, mostly because they have Papa Smurf and no one else does.

Thats a weird problem,i've been using stuffit expander less than 2 months and no problems on un-packing .sit pkgs or any other pkgs.. Default unzip location is usually on the desktop

The Desktop should be your default save location - you didn't change it at any point? Where are you downloading the .sit files to? Your desktop? If it is somewhere else, try checking that folder. Or, try right-clikcing on the .sit file and selecting StuffIt that way instead. Failing that, use Spotlight to find the icons that should have been unpacked, to see where they might be. Otherwise, I'd have to think more about it... weird...

Thanks everyone,
I got it working now, I running an outdated version of stuffit expander (9.0 compared to 10.0). I guess the old version stopped working (maybe a result of an OS update).
Anyway, I can start downloading icons like crazy and soon my Dock might look as good as yours.
