I used EndNote for about a year, and then became very angry that they wanted me to pay $100 (that was my university price) so that the "Cite While You Write" feature would work with Word 2004.Pittsax said:How do you like Bookends? I'm currently using Endnote, but it's a little too finicky for me sometimes.
At about the same time that that happened, I discovered Mellel. I do a lot of typing in Hebrew. It's well-known that unicode Hebrew in Word is terrible. Bookends became the natural choice with Mellel (though Sente has acquired a following for folks in the sciences).
Anyway, I love Bookends, though I admit that it's not the most stable piece of software. However, it is more stable and more responsive than Endnote 7 (which was sluggish, buggy, and prone to crash Word for me). I like being able to drag and drop citations into my paper. There are a few things about it that I wish were a little more EndNote-like, but I definitely prefer Bookends. Also, the forum is very helpful and the developers (headed up by "Jon" I believe) are extremely helpful and quick to respond.
All in all...I whole-heartedly recommend Bookends. But, it should be noted that my experience is based on having used it only with Mellel--I don't know how it behaves with other word processors.
