$8.08 per US gallon for regular unleaded where I live.

I when to France once before. I remember the cheapest gas had an octane rating of 95 or so, the next level up was 98 octane. I'm assuming that regular in the UK is around 95 octane as well? That tops what get. Our gas starts at 87 octane and tops out at 93 octane for so called premium (about $0.40 per gallon more than regular where I'm at).

Anyhow, judging by how our gas is priced, it's about 2x what we pay here in the States. You win some (having better cars), you lose some (higher priced gas).

Just a point to remember in this thread. While fuel prices are much more expensive in Europe, their wages are more significant than ours in the US as well. Minimum wage in the US is currently at 7.25/hour, or roughly 1160/month based on 4 weeks of 40 hours per. This alone can explain some of the gas prices being so high outside of the US.

The minimum wage in the UK is a little over 9.50/hour USD making a monthly, min. wage of approx. 1615.00/month. In the Netherlands it is 11.54/hour USD at 1846/month. 11.92/hour USD (1907/month) in Germany, and 15.50/hour USD (2480/month) in Australia. And in France it is 12.58/hour USD or 2012/month.

You can also factor in holiday time (vacation time to us yanks) and way more paid holidays (as in actual Holidays to us yanks) with the salary as benefits.

Oh, I filled up at 3.42/gallon today.

Yes 95 octane is the lowest and there are also brands like Shell V-Power and BP Ultimate that offer up to 102 octane.

I always go with the 95 octane version and my car gets about 41mpg (US) using this fuel.

Octane ratings are calculated differently in Europe than they are here in the USA. MON versus RON and AKI....

In the USA the number we see is the AKI (Anti Knock Index) and our 93 - 94 is equivalent with Europe 98. Here is a good read on it...

That being said, I did live in Germany for 4 years and remember paying 9 to 10 dollars a gallon for gas. Most of that was tax, but I didn't mind paynig it because the roads are awesome.

Now in Japan it's over 5 US dollars a gallon for high octane. For Regular it's around 4.60 to 4.70, Diesel Fuel is the cheapest at around 4.30 and up for a gallon. They sell by the liter here. It will probably go up soon. They also sell Kerosene for stoves in the winter, that's around 14 dollars for 18 liters.

$1.12CAD per litre, which, depending on your definition of a gallon, works out approximately to $4.64US per gallon.

That's pretty good. It keeps going up for us here in Vancouver...

I put £20 in the car yesterday, and paid £1.31.9 per liter. Working that out with the exchange rate, I'm paying about $7.75 per US gallon. It currently costs me about £50 ($78) to fill my tank, and I get about 300 miles out of it. I do ~250 miles a week.
