What I hate and love about my self when I'm trying to sleep I can only find comfort facing the direction with the most air and the right phone on the headphones with the HD215 can rotate so your ear can rest and your left ear can blast in the music.

Shure SRH840

These are the brand new top of the line headphones from Shure. They sound amazing, and are without a doubt the best $200 headphones on the market, hands down.

I have a theory that since these are Shure's first ever over-ear headphones (they make fantastic earphones, some of which go for over $500!), they wanted competitive pricing to get people to buy them and see how fantastic they are.

I haven't listened to them with an iPod yet so I don't know how well that will drive these bad boys, but listening to lossless files on my Mac is amazing.

Before these, I used Bose TriPorts, which I think sound good except there's a somewhat artificial feeling to the music, and the overall quality is average. They are very comfortable, however.

wow!! they look really good! glad to hear they sound nice :)

one thing i have noticed about iPods is that the quality is somewhat 'diminished' compared to playback from a computer, even with lossless files.. not by much, but you can hear it - especially if you play a game at the same time...

it seems to give more distortion on bass sounds and be more tinny up higher.. the iPod Mini's were REALLY bad at this, my 5G Video seems to be a bit better..

anyone else ever had the same experience?

I had the same issue with my first gen iPhone.
As soon as I used a non Apple headphone in combination with the equalizer on, it was a total mess.
That was the reason why I sold my iPhone.

well tbh as soon as i used a non-apple headphone i noticed an increase in quality, because the stock ear-phones SUCK! i wont sell my iPod, never ever.. but its very noticeable. i might start using some MP3 CDs or something for the car :)

Bold statement, having used the Triports before the Shures.

I haven't heard the ie6's but I'd imagine the 530's would have a broader sound stage with more clarity. I find they're pretty balanced and provide great isolation. That said, my guess is they'd be better compared with ie7 or 8's.

Dark iPhone pic, but I am loving my 555s! They arrived on Friday, but I was away for East Coast Championships (horse show) so I didn't get to use them until yesterday! :D

any idea how the SE530's would compare to a pair of IE6's??

The IE6's are geared toward bass. I have the IE7's, which are the most balanced out of the IE series, and I love them. Comparing to the 530, I would probably say the IE series will have more bass overall since they use dynamic drivers instead of balanced armatures. Soundstage is also huge on the 7 and 8, not sure about the 6 though. The 7 and the 530 would probably compare very well, the 530 just being more neutral of the two.

Just ordered these last night, should arrive next week, I will let you guys know how they sound. I read some great reviews. Some said they break easily at the jack, but now that it is re-designed I hope I wouldn't face that issue.
