I own the HD555s myself. Have had them for about four years and they're still going strong. Quality sound and comfortable to wear, although they do leave big imprints in your hair

Anyway, my friend said he tried out the Beats and was very disappointed. He's a bit of an audiophile so I trust his opinion, but I'm afraid I don't have one of my own.

What about modding the HD555 to HD595?http://mikebeauchamp.com/misc/sennheiser-hd-555-to-hd-595-mod/

for those of you with the B&W C5s, is your cord turning yellow? Mine is turning yellow right under the right ear bud where the plastic for the ear loop ends and goes down about 6 inches on the cord.
Any ideas?

I own every pair of Monster Beats except the top of the line ones, But I just ordered the sennheiser hd 598's. I bought those beats because I heard from fellow soldiers they were great, but since I have been a member on this forum and had my mac, everyone seems to lean towards the more professional Sen's. I do love deep bass, but prefer a clear sound over anything. So I will give them a try and re-post my own picture when they get here.

If anyone cares to PM me about the quality or has tested these for themselves compared to the Beats by Dre I would greatly appreciate it. I can't wait until they get here to try them myself. They look SOOOO much more comfortable and lighter.

Well obviously the bass isn't gonna be bloated like the Beats. These have great soundstage, so much tha some use it as a gaming headphone.

B&W C5s or UE TripleFi

What do you all think for in-ear units? B&W C5's or UE TripleFi's. Quite close in price and both have very solid reviews.

Today I got my pair of Sennheiser HD 598's. I bought these to compare to the Beats Studio's I have. I also received a FiiO E10 to crank up the power just a little bit more. I will be writing a review of them here shortly and comparing the two brands, but overall so far after back and forth from both, I am not impressed with the Sen's. Look and feel is about all they have going for them.

EDIT: Open Vs. Closed Headphones

I'm alternating between the Incase Sonic and the Bowers & Wilkins C5.

...

I was looking for a pair of headphones to buy and stumbled across this thread. I am by no means an audiophile. Just wanted something that was over ear and really clean and simple looking.

The Incase Sonic headphones really caught my eye. Bought them on a whim and they are perfect. Very comfortable, sound great, and they are extremely clean looking with that minimalist approach. Love 'em!

i've always had relatively cheap headphones -- probably never exceeding $30. prior to this i've had lower end computers as well, but since i've finally splurged and got my mac... i've felt it not unreasonable to also get some higher quality speakers, headphones, etc. i just ordered these the other day. anyone have any experience with them, or similar ones? or thoughts or opinions?

also, i really enjoy these aesthetically (which certainly isn't top priority for me)... but i simply couldn't spend that much.

Been contemplating these and the audiotechnica ath-m50s. They look super comfortable but they look kind of weird sitting on the head.

Can't go wrong with the ATH-M50s. I got them a few days ago and they're super comfortable now that I've broken them in. Superb sound also. ;)

Yeah problem is that it wont fit my iphone case head phone part though...actually probably wont fit many cases at all. What is your experience?

Anyone try the klipsch mode40? I bought these as an upgrade from Bose QC's. The most comfortable, the quietest, I have ever used. A little pricey but worth it in my opinion. If your in need of something for long flights, DO IT!

I have the M-Audio AV40's hooked up to my Mac Mini. Anyone know if the headphone amp on those is decent? I've seen a couple people on head-fi say it was good, but no real comparison of that to a dedicated amp.
