When you need thumbs down the most.

I really don't get everyone's beef with Beats by Dr. Dre headphones.

I have a pair of the black Detox Pro's.

I like them because they're stylish, good sound quality and collapse down to a nice comfortable size to pack away.

I can understand getting annoyed by all the fanboys that are like "ZOMG BEST SOUND QUALITY EVAR!!!". When they clearly aren't amazing. But seriously, the hate is not needed.

You might approach this with the "they're overpriced" argument. But isn't an Audi an overpriced VW? Well, guess what, people have free choice in this world.

Valid argument. I've not got any Beats but did consider them. The issue for me is that they are just a standard pair of headphones. That's it. There really is no 'Beats Audio Technology' - when you start reading up about them its clear its all marketing crap.

I just dont get why people would pay such a huge price when you can get something better for under half the price. Seems more of a statement to me.

Then again, I cant talk here - I have a set of Bose Companion 5's and the Bose in-ear headphones. They are mediocre at best and I know it...but I just love the spinny desktop dial volume adjuster :p

Personally I dont think you can go far long as long as you stay well away from anything made by 'Monster' (who now make all Beats headphones) as Monster is well known as a rip-off merchant (one such example, they sell HDMI cables for $80 which are WORSE quality than the ones you buy for $10).

I did see a review (I believe it was CNET) about a set of beats by monster. They did a teardown and it turned out that they were using identical parts to a cheap set sold by monster for $20. After seeing that I personally wouldn't buy anything from them!

This being said. If they are comfortable, have good sound and you can afford them, then why the hell not - you only live once and its all down to personal preference :)

The Pros are the only Beats headphones with good sound, good build quality - the works; the Studios on the other hand are complete garbage compared to other headphones.

These finally came in the mail yesterday, Sennheiser HD439's. The build quality isn't the greatest, kinda feels like cheap plastic. But the audio quality is more than impressive.

How do you like the DT531s? I'm not a crazy audiophile; I just need a comfortable headphone with velour earpads.

I'm also considering the Sony MDR-V6 (with $20 replacement velour earpads) or the more expensive Sennheiser HD555.

Hey I was interested in picking up a better pair of over headphones. I have the Klipsch S4i earbuds which I use for travel/working out, Bose Q15's at work. The ones I've been using at home are the Philip Stretch headphones which are ok. But I'm looking for a new pair for home use in the 150-250 range. Any recommendations?

My music taste is all over the place: hip-hop, R&B, jazz, rock, metal, EDM, etc. Because of the wide variety/price range I understand I won't find an amazing set. Just an overall good pair.

I recommend the Audio Technica ATH-M50's.

Most likely a typo, but Monster no longer has ties with Beats. Beats are now on their own, and you will know this when they appear without the Monster logo.

Those look nice, but a tad outside my price range. Besides, I don't like the leather/fake leather cups. I prefer cloth.

I was iffy about them too when I got them. I thought the earcups would get hot because of the material but so far so good!

I love the design of Dr Dre headphones, sound quality is also very good.
I don't care about the hype or anything, I went to the apple store, tried a few other headphones and I liked these best. I also liked the new retina Macbook Pro and I got it too. Don't understand when people say: oh, this is so overpriced, you can have something "better" for half of that money. So? I want THIS, and if I can afford it, why not? Isn't that also what some people say about mac users, why buy a mac if you can get a pc for half of the price?

True and nice photo. I wouldn't buy them but it's not my money or my ears.

I'm really liking these, a bit warmer than my usual stuff. Thinksound ts02.

Good decision, buy what you want =)
But when you have the time, listen to other brands too.
Macs have advantages that PCs can't get, Beats vs other brands I guess don't :p
But you are well served, I listened to a pair of Dr Dre headphones and they were nice, unfortunately I don't have any Grado headphones of that Price to try both :p
But everytime I love more and more my Alessandro Ms1i.Someday when I have a Job I will buy something like the Grado's PS500 :p

AKG-K310P -2.90eur on a local electronics store - ideal for running, not bad sounds for the price.

I swear by my Sennheiser HD 25-SP's. I've always wanted a pair of the Adidas HD 25-1 II's but my HD 25-SP's have lasted me a very long time.

By far the most durable, best sounding headphones I've ever used (Second to it's bigger brother)

Ive deliberately waited a few days to answer this as they arrived on Saturday...

Very comfortable to begin with. Very!
Sound quality is really nice actually, I find it nice and warm, Not harsh at all.
They're not too demanding and can take hard hitting music really well.

So far I would say they're now probably my general go to cans for flexibility and comfort.

If you can find a set in good condition I say go for it.
Although I am also a Sennheiser enthusiast so give the 555's a try if you can.

I tend not to stray from the brands Im used to, So these are my first Beyer's
& Im definitely hooked now :)

DH414 pads? How do you find them for comfort etc when used with the Grado's?

Just bought these as a B-Day gift to myself. Couldn't be happier with them! :)

What amp is in that?

I still have my old Chu Moy Bur Brown and its still awesome :)

Cant beat the HD25's

The one thing amongst others that I love is the availability of spare parts for these, From the headband to the pads, Right down to the drivers & the screws etc.

And of course they sound amazing!! lol :D

Do the Dr. Dre headphones heat up really quick after a while? I live in a hot country, so I can't really use these kind of headphones without sweating bucket loads lol. But I'm really tempted to get Dr. Dre headphones, just wondering if the sound quality is that good and if it heats up real quick
