Ohhh..yes, ate the meat! Elk is WAY better than venison. I dont care for venison a whole lot. I will eat it though. Only thing I dont care for about elk is that it is lean. We raise cattle so a FAT steer would win over an elk by a long shot.

Thanks, wife did them. The elk one is for me, the other one wifey sold.

The tan one is an elk hide that was hanging around. The other is a padded corduroy sleeve.

They're very nice indeed. I like how there's still the rough edge on the hide one. And the placement of the button holes on the other makes it look really nice.

Ressurecting this to post my new frankenstein-esqe creation - I've been looking everywhere for a nice, fairly cheap messenger bag, and haven't managed to find one, so thought I'd make one. It was a logistical nightmare and I've spent most of the weekend swearing at it, and my foolishness for attempting such a thing. But it's finally finished, and now I have a messenger bag that doesn't look as if it's got a laptop in it, but actually has a nice padded pocket in it for my iBook. :)

Excuse the grainy photos - I can't find my camera lead so I used my phone.

Amazing as always, Lau!

Is the lining polka dotted?! Mm, I love me some polka dots.

J/k. I just realized I could zoom in even more... Little flowers, yes? Still cute, but polka dots are still cuter. :p

Aw, thanks. :)

Sadly my local choice of material is a bit limited - the outside was kind of heavy duty cotton twill stuff, and was really nice to work with, but the inside was the best of a bad bunch, really. It's ok, but not really what I wanted. I kind of wanted something really surprising, so you had a normal looking outside and then a crazy looking inside!

But now I know how to do it I can make myself another one with more expensive material - always the way, you get really frustrated and swear never to do anything like that again, then the minute you finish you want to start again. :p

exactly what I think! I get that $0.50/yard fabric and make whatever, then I get the expensive fabric and have at it.

I still swear the whole time, though. :D :p

and that bag is CUTE!! The flower-polka-dot-lining is adorable! :D

Thanks. :) Swearing whilst manhandling a sewing machine is what it's all about. :D

well i didn't make it, but there are about 300 fabric markets here in shanghai and i found this little shop in one that specializes in leather products. you can bring a design to them and they'll make it for you, or bring an existing product and they can copy it for you (i had a different shop copy my Gap low rise worker jeans into three new pairs with my choice of fabric).

they're used to doing things like wallets and purses and shoes (in fact, you can look through a Gucci or Prada catalog, point at a purse or a pair of shoes, and they'll make it for you, with the logo if you want) but i convinced them to have a look at my ipod. the guy made some measurements, and i told him how i wanted a flippy case and he made this for me. he glued tiny magnets inside the leather on both ends so that when the flap closes it snaps shut and won't open. he even sewed an extra piece of leather on with a button for a belt clip and a small ring for a lanyard.

i swear they can make anything.

and it cost me about 8 bucks USD.

i could've chosen other types of leather, including alligator skin and all sorts of colours and patterns, but i decided to go with classic black, because it's elegant and it had the lowest price tag.

The base of this bag is a 99 cent carpet i found at IKEA.
I made it with the hep of my sister, as 4 hands are always better (and the sewing machine gave me a hard time ;))

I'd have never have thought of using a rug or a carpet. Was it really thick and hard to sew, or was it ok? It looks good, by the way.

I just came across this tutorial, and thought I'd post it here for posterity.

Seems like a nice simple way of making a sleeve bag type thing. I especially like the way the handle slips through the hole like that. It would be better if there were no fastenings at all, and it held itself together by the handle and the way it folded up. I'll look into it. :)

it was allright to sew. but it was hard on the limit of the sewing machine. i guess anything thicker wouldn´t have worked.

i´m glad you like it :)

If it happens your trouser leg is the same diameter as your 12/13" laptop (or presumably your 15/17" if you're into the flares, man, you might like to make a sleeve like so: :)

(Even if not, it's a good set of instructions on how to make a sleeve, as you could just hem and join your outer material into a "leg" first.)

I'm just looking at the linked site and particularly like this quote:

I'm not exactly sure how I discovered this. I mean, we all know that I love my PowerBook to a frighteningly abnormal extent. But even considering my unhealthy obsession, this discovery is a bit weird: My 12" PowerBook... my 2-year-old, aluminum wrapped bundle of joy... fits perfectly down my pant leg. I'll just let that sink in for a while.

:D

I can't say I've ever tried shoving my BabyBook™ into my trousers

that t-shirt one is cute! too bad it would offer near zilch protection.

and for some reason, I knew that a 12"er fit in a pant leg... I haven't put mine in my pants either.

I'm assuming you mean American pants not British pants... unless you happen to wear Bridget Jones ones...

You'd probably get a 17" MBP in those :D
