What's the reason for having two mail clients on the home screen?
Apple Mail is for my iCloud account.
Gmail is for my Gmail account.

Apple Mail can't push Gmail.
Gmail can't push Apple Mail.

That's why two apps.

Stupid, I know. And all because two companies can't find a compromise. So the consumer suffers.

Huh.

I only use Mail. I have my iCloud account, 2 gmail accounts, 3 outlook accounts, and a personal mail server and don't have any issues with any of them.

In fact, just now, I launched Mail on my phone. I was last in my 'Mailboxes' list and so that's where I landed. While the 'Unread' count was 5, before and after I launched Mail. When I first launched it there was a marking of 3 unread next to one of my outlook accounts .... and within a second or two, a '1' showed up next to each of my gmail accounts.

Maybe there's a delay when that unread marker shows up outside the app, maybe not. All I know is that I've never had a problem with the stock Mail app and a reasonably sized heterogeneous set of accounts.

But, that's why we all have options. :). Personally, I would find it much more intrusive to have to check multiple mail clients to get my mail rather than just tugging 'down' on the mailbox list when I launch Mail 'just to be sure'.

Did some tinkering. I kinda like this layout, it makes the icons easy to reach

By the way, I don't know why it says 77 calories burned, it's a bug I swear haha

That’s not Push. You launched the app, that’s why it fetched new mail. Push is when it automatically fetches new mail as it arrives even when the phone is locked, disconnected from power and WiFi.

Test your Mail app again, and you’ll see that it won’t fetch new google mail until you open the app.

Google themselves have stated that there’s no Push for Gmail in Apple Mail for iOS.

I finally settled on this. I used the Big Sur wallpaper, as I like that one better than the stock iOS wallpapers. I used to have all my apps on one homescreen in folders, but I now removed all folders with apps that I don't frequently use to the App Library. This gave me room for some widgets. The two small widgets are smart stacks. The top one rotates Calendar, Reminders & Notes. The bottom one rotates Maps, Fitness & Music.

Is anyone using more than one screen with widgets? I don’t, but might when more widgets are introduced...

Interestingly I can see a little merging between iPhone and Watch - they promoted having multiple faces, for different scenarios (eg. Exercise, work, home) - I can imagine doing the same on iPhone, a screen per activity.

Short term would need a couple of improvements: Waking on the screen you were last on (like the same Watch face you were on), and maybe even changing screen/face based on time of day or location (Siri suggestion)

Widgets in combination with apps on the same screen look strange to me. I feel like it should be all one or all the other. Maybe it’s just a matter of getting used to it (I’m not running the beta).

You can have a blank home screen and just have widgets to the left and app library to the right. I didn‘t keep this option but just wanted to see if it was possible.

Correct. Seen it today on iPhonedo's videos. You simply have a page that does have only one app and select it, then remove that app and you end up with a blank home screen. I would probably have that with just one widget on it.

Also to note, I have actually removed all app icons from my home screen apart from the dock. I have instead decided to use the Siri suggestions widget so it dynamically changes based on the apps I use.
I'm too OC... anally retentive to like my app icons moving around by themselves, but as a test I filled a page with three Siri app suggestion widgets and it's smart enough to not duplicate any apps. This is fun! I'm going to keep that page just to see which apps I use the most.

Nice screens so far. The Apple widgets are terrible in design though! They all seem to be lacking functionality.

For example, Apple bought Dark Sky just to show precipitation reports only it’s going to rain and doesn’t show it all the time? That’s not really how Dark Sky works now. On the small widget I’d have implemented similar to how it has done now with an icon for Wind, Rain, and Sun and their related percentages and values. Right now it looks like a whole lot of wasted space.

The Maps widget, is there more than showing where you are now? I’d have hoped it would have said X minutes to Home, Work and a few other options.

I’ll mainly put City Mapper, BBC News, Mail and Gmail and my most used Widgets (if they all have them) but there seems to be some missed opportunities with the way Apple have designed their so far. Hope some more thoight

Can you create a widget from a third party app?
The developer of the app will have to update it with the new widget functionality. "Old" widgets remain functional on the dedicated widget page most left on the homescreen.

Not really liking the idea of widgets on my iPhone’s app screen. Can you still keep them in the widget page by swiping right?
However I may like them on my iPad.
yes, the "widget page" still is there

Wish I could remove the watch and activity app from the home screen. The only two apps that are for some random reason required on the home screen if a watch is paired.
I have a watch and moved the apps, just drag'm like any other app?

Almost every screenshot has the settings.app on the homescreen. Can't understand why, are you guys meddling with your settings that much? Really no other app that's more used to take it's place?
