Some great shots!

I have seen numerous “reviews” now talking about the image stabilization, wish someone would throw up some comparisons between OIS and sensor-shift already. I’m no photographer but I’d love to understand what I’m missing.

OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) and Sensor-Shift OIS both reduce camera shake, but Sensor-Shift OIS moves the image sensor itself, while traditional OIS moves the lens

Basically you just have to try a little harder to keep the phone steadier when taking lower light photos. It’s more sensitive to slight movements.

Low light only?
Low to medium. The more light you have the less you have to worry about it.

The 16e also reverts to night mode earlier in the “light spectrum” than some of its counterparts. That helps with getting better low light shots as well, but also adds to the need to keep it steady.

Yes the 16e reverts to night mode in some situations earlier than the more high end iPhones as @jntdroid said.

I’ve had no issues with night mode and getting clear low light shots with the OIS on the 16e, it’s doing just fine. None issue to worry about IMO vs sensor shift stabilisation (which will no doubt produce better results in certain extreme low light situations).

Got it, thanks. Half my photos are of my dog, who hates sitting still (lol). Haven't been out much since getting the phone, wasn't sure if it'll be an issue with trying to snag photos quickly, as compared to with my 13 mini anyway.

I am curious if 16e really has that good of a battery life. 60hz and 4000mAh and 6.1" should be a great combo. Interestingly enough, online the opinions vary. I kinda want to buy a 1TB 15 Pro, but boy you really cannot ignore the 3200 mAh only battery. The small pros always have ****** battery (especially after the 1 year mark). My 13PM (with 86% health) still has very strong battery life. And I really do not want poor battery life

On the other hand, the 16e is so tempting because it is as light as my regular S24.. Think I am going to wait and see if the 17 Pro gets at least a 3800 mAh, but also the $1500 price sucks.

Decisions decisions...

Have you edited those photos at all in a programme on your computer or iPhone? Or are they straight from the camera? They are VERY impressive shots.
They are straight from the camera! I saw no reason to edit the photos. The camera is great on the 16e, it’s just lacking the lenses and features of the more expensive iPhones.

The battery life on the 16e is pretty impressive imo. It’s beating my partners 14 Plus and my previous iPhones. I could probably reduce the charge to the lowest 80% limit and still have more than enough for my moderate to heavy usage.

Thanks for the reply. Really impressive. Pro features don't matter as much for me but yes the lenses may be missed, especially the telephoto but that's only on the Pro models now I think? Anyway it's promising for the iPhone Air if it's real with its rumoured one camera being just as good.

No worries! Like the 16e the iPhone 16 has the same 2x zoom/crop into the centre of the 48mp camera. Obviously the 16 has the ultra wide lens.

I take a lot of photos and have added many in here to show how well the 16e camera performs in different scenarios.

I imagine the rumoured single camera on the iPhone 17 Air will have better specs than the 16e’s set up, and no doubt perform very well.

Thanks to your photos I am going to take a look at both the Air if it’s real and the 16E. I had an XR, went to a 13 Pro refurb, then to my current 14 Pro Max refurb and it’s battery is already at 86%. So I am going to buy a NEW iPhone this year. I have any reasons to change the Max, but mainly because it’s a brick.

I agree with the zoom, 2x is fine but after that quality falls off fast! I did post a 10x moon shot yesterday further back in here, not great as I expected. Also a night mode shot which wasn’t bad of the stars and better than I was expecting.

The zoom on the 16e must be better than you had on the mini?
Your photos are very good. I am deciding between 16 and 16e and I am balancing loss of macro vs longer battery life and zoom

So far 16e is winning it keep posting please

Thank you. Battery life is impressive and the single camera is great! If you’re used to using the ultra wide lens and like taking macro photos, you’ll surely miss that feature?
