I'm starting to think I have a bad battery:( I get around three hours usage and seven hours standby with wifi on, 3G off and push off. Location services on, bluetooth off and brightness around 15%

Yeah I think so. I'm getting better than that out of my iPhone 3gs's first charge. I let it charge for about 6 hours after getting it, then activated and synced etc. Now on 30% charge after 3.5 hour usage, 17h standby, 3g on, wifi on, location on, notifications on, 50-60% brightness (auto off), en exchange mailbox and a gmail account set at 15mins

Ihave also noticed that when using it the back starts to get pretty hot, and this is with a silicon case with a plastic "spine" it started to get warm from basic things such as moving icons around. Is there a limit as to when I can return the phone to apple? Right now I'm at 2 hours usage and 7 hours standby with around 40% left. 3G on, location, wifi, and Bluetooth off

My 3G battery. It's a beast, but Its mostly just gathering dust as I use the 3GS now.

I don't have a 3G or 3Gs, but I have a 2G iPhone I bought from ebay and use it with T-Mobile.

However, for the Lifetime, my iPhone keeps on saying 6 days and 30 mins. That doesn't even change. I thought it was an error and would be fixed when I upgrade to 3.0 but it still didn't.

Weird.

3.2 hours of games/fooling around
30 minutes of wifi
45 minutes call time
1 hour ish of music

I had location settings on
bluetooth off
brightness on mid
notifcations off
and email totally turned off (no accounts)

This is my second full discharge after replacing my old 3g battery. I have a 1600 mAh in it now and there isn't much of a difference from this battery one to the old one.

You're upset with that? Haha, I'd kill for that battery life!

This is good if not photoshopped.

After restoring as NEW... and draining to 20% about 4 times... Here is where I am after having my 3GS for two weeks.

Wi-Fi: on
Push: on
Ask to Join: off
3G: on
Brightness: around %50 with Auto-Dim
CameraRoll55.jpg

and these 3 are not. I get this with my 3G.

So, should I try getting a new phone....

Depends on what you've done so far, but it does look like it, IMO. You should do a DFU restore, since they'll ask if you did that anyway, and that might improve things. All I know is I get that kind of usage daily and I'm on a 3G. Battery life does depend on lots of things though, most notably what kind of reception you have throug out the day (if your radios are constantly searching for a 3G or EDGE signal, then your battery will be sucked down). I posted a link on battery life above on other things to watch out for. Anyway, you shouldn't have to turn everything off to get normal battery life.

Edit: I thought I'd posted this above, but I can't find it. Here's the thread I referred to:

Only had my phone a short while, but it took over six hours of mixed usage and 19 hours of standby to drain my battery today. And I was actually trying hard to tax it, that's nothing like what I expect my normal usage pattern to be. At normal usage I doubt I'll ever drain the battery in a day.

I have to say, this battery life is the best I've ever had on a cell phone, and I'm doing 10 times as much.

suddenly i feel like my battery isn't doing so great. don't get me wrong, it lasts the day, but i can't get more than 4 or 5 hours usage out of it without having to charge it over night. i certainly cant get 5:40 usage and over 1 day standby. looks like its restore time tonight...

iPhone.aggie, I don't have Photoshop and don't know how to use it anyway. I've had battery problems and even had to go to the genius bar. It's gotten better after calibrating and restoring. ;). Also, what's the freaking point of someone faking their battery's usage? I don't really see the point but maybe it's just me. I have much better things to do with my time.

Ok....another post about my battery but this time I enabled push for one of my email accounts and here is my other usage:

About 40 min of talk time on 3G
4 email account using fetch every 15 min
1 email account using push
Heavy Text messaging, Myspace and facebook app, some internet usage
Some GhostMac usage and about 10 min of using bluetooth
Wifi On

What do u guys think ?

I'm on 3.1 beta and that's a battery killer. Up to 30% more actually.

Wait till 3.1 is officially released and we'll have a challenge ;)

It looks like you're plugged into a dock or you're charging.
Lmao, that would be cool if it could last that long though.

ran an experiment in the last few days to compare battery life between my 3GS and BB Curve 8330. On each phone i have it set up to get my MS Exchange and GMail.

First I set up to push the email for every single email folder I have every 15 minutes. Comes out to around 1000 emails daily. The BB Curve won the battery like contest. it barely used any last night while the iphone used almost half it's charge last night while all my system generated emails came in.

i charge both my phones all day at work and usually only my iphone on the weekends. will see how long my BB battery life lasts on the weekend

Wifi: On
Location Services: On
Bluetooth: Off, switched on when necessary
Brightness: 25% with auto-brightness on
Notifications: On

I think this is very good, right?
haha 002.PNG

A lot of this was overnight while I was sleeping.

Wifi on.
3G on.
Fetch mail hourly.
Push and Push notifications off.
Location Services set to on.
