eBay with the 30% Live.com was 450.00, are you a Leica fan?

Most definitely! I've been looking for something to replace my aging sony cybershot with and stumbled upon the Leica website a while ago while searching for dslr cameras or something. I don't have enough photography know-how to justify the purchase of a high end PnS (the d-lux 3 or 4 for example). $330 is an excellent price for that camera!

Yeah it's a great camera i came from a small sony t-7 that took great pictures, but what makes this one so great is the lens, the d-lux3 is discontinued and they have a D-lux 4 out it runs around 799-899.. and there isnt a huge difference between the two..

May I ask whats so great about these Leica's? I'm a photo student but just stick to SLR's, is this digital? film? can you change the lenses? cuz that looks like some old ass PnS

WOHOO 500th post, may I ask again what makes a Leica so great?

The Leica M8 is about as amazing as DSLRs come.

Yes. It's a DIGITAL SLR. Their build quality is top notch and their lens system blows anything Nikon or Canon could ever produce out of the water.

The Leica M8 is like the purchase a photographer makes before they buy their new Hasselblad Medium Format.

Leica keeps their cameras in a "vintage" look and I love it.

Just do a little research on Leica.

In other worlds it's a system camera where it's nothing short of amazing.

Too bad the image sensor isn't so good nor is it cheap. Hell if it wasn't $6500 for the body and $5000 for good glass for daily use, I'd buy one instead of a Nikon. :p

Now the questions is, netdog, why did you buy the M8 oppose to the M8.2

Isn't the M8 a rangefinder, not an SLR? I don't actually know the difference between the two, but I thought there was one.

Yeah your right and andrewdale is wrong, its in no way an SLR it has no mirror so it cant be a single lens reflex camera, a range finder just has a shutter to cover the film between the lens an slr has a shutter and mirror so when you look through the view finder you see out the lens, with a Leica or other rangefinder you simply look out a separate viewfinder in no way configured to your lens choice.

Very good choice (got one myself). In case you haven't already come across it or been linked to it elsewhere, I would strongly recommend this guide for the best TM application.

Thanks for that, I already have it in bookmark :) Which one did you use thermal compound - xigmatek's thermal kit or the aftermarket thermal compound like H-N1 and AS5?

P.S. Sent you a PM incase if you don't check my post here.

So a rangefinder is like those disposable cameras, or a lomography camera?

Learn something new every day!

A friend of mine had a Leica M8. He ended up getting a Rebal XTi, but that Leica was really really nice. It was a great smaller camera that takes great photos on the fly. Good if you don't always have you SLR ready. For me I think it is the glass. Expensive partially because of good quality glass.
