Mostly for lounging around, I like using it a lot more in bed than my mbpro. I am also going on a 6week study abroad to Italy, so having good battery life for watching movies and studf during traveling was a major plus. And it was just something I wanted since it was new :) I will also now use it for reading books, much better experience then what I thought it would be

It has pretty much completely replaced my mbpro. Just use my Mac mini for papers, pictures, and iTunes server.

are you coming to italy?! where exactly?

Shoes are SUCH an issue for me here in Greece because A - they are much more expensive here than in the States (190 euros compared to 110), and B - I wear a size 14, and even stores in Athens dont have much of a selection.

I'm looking to get my first real camera, but I have absolutely no idea where to start as I've only had very bad point and shoot cameras in the past. Also, I afford a very expensive one, I just want something decent to start me off thats affordable, any suggestions?

I was in your shoes a month ago. I would 100% recommend the Pentax K-x. There's simply nothing better than it for the price, no matter what anyone says. It is excellent for a beginner and amateur, too. Don't get sucked in by the Canon and Nikon fanboys. Their entry-level cameras are more expensive without giving you more to make up for it.

I suggest you go to PentaxForums.com and have a look-see. There was a recent topic started that may assist you here. Several people went with Canon only to return the camera for a Pentax K-x.

Also, going Pentax will allow you to use the older manual lenses that go quite cheaply on eBay now and will save you a ton of money on lenses versus Canon and Nikon. As far as the K-x, itself, goes, there are three kits available. The 18-55mm kit, the 18-55mm & 50-200mm, and the 18-55mm & 55-300mm. Each is a great kit lens, with the latter being the best. To give you a starting point, you should be able to find the K-x with 18-55mm kit for $460-$530 new. If you can find the kit with a 55-300mm lens at a good price, go with that one. The K-x comes in black, white, red, and navy blue, too. I got the white due to its Apple-esque style.

If you think your going to upgrade at any point want to use different lenses, Canon or Nikon are best because they have the most options and preferable cameras - I got the Canon 400D for £230 delivered with everything and a 8GB sandisk memory card. Look second hand and you'll get a lot more for your money :) To give you an idea my setup is worth lots and I've saved like £400+ buying in mint condition second hand instead of first hand!

Congratulations on your new home. It looks great. I have no idea where you are from, but that house reminds me a lot the homes in a community in Washington state. I had to look twice to make sure you're not a neighbor to some family I have on the West Coast!

I live in Colorado.

Go with the Nikon D4000/5000 And Upgrade the lens to a prime 30mm/50mm to start off it will cost you $200 for a new Nikon lens. But trust me it's worth it. You don't want to waste your money on something that you will get tired of quickly because it's very limiting. So from the start get something good or you will regret it.
Now there is also the Canon line that is also great like the Ti2 or T2i?

I myself started with a Nikon D40 and regretted wasting money on it fast, i should have bought something better.. So i invested in a prime lens a Sigma 50mm 1.4 HSM and that made it so much better.

Sorry, but that sounds like a terrible alternative to the Pentax K-x.

First, there's no need to upgrade the K-x kit lens. Second, you can get a Pentax M42 50mm f/1.4 prime for $70. Third, it's more versatile and not at all limiting. Fourth, it outperforms Canon and Nikon in low-light (high ISO). It even outperforms its big brother, the K-7, in high ISO, which is a big deal. Fifth, it runs great on the AA batteries that are widely available. Plus, it's lightweight and compact, as are the Pentax lenses. And of course, it has fantastic image quality.

I've also heard from many that Pentax is easier to learn on than Nikon. I'd have to agree from using my friend's D300 and D200, among cheaper Nikons.

^ Buyer's opinion though. Show me image quality from comparable cameras and MTF charts on the lenses used.

What's so hard about using a Nikon?

The meat of my post wasn't opinion.

As far as IQ, the OP can find an entire gallery devoted to the K-x on the forum I linked to, as I'm sure he can on other forums for other cameras. :)

Didn't say it was hard. I simply found the Pentax menus to be easier to navigate.
