New York, Baby!
I managed to get 4 days off from 31st August-3rd September, so I found the cheapest nonstop ticket from London to JFK I could from 28th August-4th September, it was with these guys for £445:

Also, this bike for £139.99:

and that's me for the month... (Hoping for Madden 11 and a Magic Trackpad for my birthday though)

Preordered the new Linkin Park album. But then I remembered I am selling my laptop so I canceled it. Buuuut I kept The Catalyst. Pretty good

Someone tell me! White or black? I am about to pull the trigger!

Selling my Canon S90 to my mom since she needs an easy point and shoot for her wedding cake photos for her portfolios. Decided to try out the micro four thirds offerings!

I like the white too. Although I think you should check out the new Sony NEX series, which are a bit cheaper than the Lumix 4/3s, have larger sensors, and are smaller overall. They come in a variety of colours. :)

I went for the white because of you schneiderman - you always know best!

Haha well been wanting the white but looking at youtube reviews the black looks nice too. The white is super rare it seems but I found one for a good deal. $675 sealed new with the 20mm f1.7. I want to get the oly 14-42mm since it is compact but need to read more reviews on it with the panny.

As for the new sony line up - I really appreciate the compatibility of all these lenses with the panny so I am sticking to that. That and the sony looks weird. Yes I am shallow!

I still value its portability and functionality...but if you could see my mom and how she has taken to it..you would see why I want to give it to her.

My mom is not that computer savvy, but she always wants to go online to learn new things. She just can't get the hang of the mouse and keyboard. It confuses her. When I showed her my ipad she just pointed away at things, used the large onscreen keyboard with ease, and sent off emails and replies in seconds.

For a woman who has done everything to make sure I was happy and taken care of...it is least I can do. She is sensible and does not want to spend too much money (being a immigrant from vietnam nearly 30 years ago, and working hard as a wedding cake designer every day). Therefore, it makes a lot of sense to me to dig in a little and give up one of my many many toys I have to give her something that she can really use as she wants to.

So yes, while I love my iPad, I love my mom more. ;)

P.S. Going to really miss Docs to Go. Oh well!

This is great. Seriously. It's so nice to see people who appreciate their parents enough to give up something that they so obviously want for themselves.

The same thing happened with my Grandmother and my first iPad. I have been trying to get her to adapt to a computer for years and she's so afraid to touch any keys.

I bought my iPad and took it to her house and preloaded some stuff on there and pictures and before I knew it, she was swiping to change pictures and she understood the idea of the home key.

For a woman who asks me to program phone numbers into her basic flip phone, she really took to it quickly.

After that, I just couldn't not let her have it. So I got wireless internet set up in their house and after she gets more comfortable with the iPad, I think i'm going to leave my MBP at her house one day to see how she deals with that.

Thanks :)

She keeps bragging to her friends what she can do with the iPad, and because it is still relatively new technology her friends are wowed. It's enough to make your heart melt.

I guess that is another great thing about the iPad. Great for people who are not that tech savvy! Really good for anyone! I really will miss being able to hold all my school notes in a place where I can just read it in bed. Need to somehow solve that dilemma...

They're smaller, but if their DSLRs were any indication, the lenses will be considerably more expensive. Also, the lenses for the Sony's would/should be bigger than m4/3 lenses (assuming equal lens design ability) due to the larger dimensions of the sensor that the lens has to cover. The lens will always be the limiting factor of how small the total package can be, so people really shouldn't worry too much about camera thickness unless they're only going to use pancake lenses.

I have held off on getting a m4/3 camera because nobody makes the lenses I want yet. I want a 25 or 30 mm f/2 pancake or faster lens, a 60 mm f/2 or faster lens. I'd also like to see a Oly or Panasonic equivalent of 24-70 mm f2. Oly already makes one for the regular 4/3 standard, so an m4/3 version would be even smaller.
