Awesome. That's great that you're making what seems like a decent amount of money. Has it been a network of friends and people who know people you know? Nothing wrong with that if it is. I think most people start out that way. I'm just curious.

Thanks for the sample. Looks good :)

I saw this on my local bike club website. I'm tempted to try it out just to see what it's like.

I've been at it a few years now. Started shooting family and friends for free, then other people started asking for stuff. Now I shoot all of my old high school's sports. Parents buy a good amount of pictures. The school can't really buy pictures to use for their yearbook, so they offered me a full page ad for free to use some of my sports pictures. (None of the students in yearbook have a camera that can do sports at all) I shoot dances for the middle school and make a $1,000+ each time, team pictures, etc. Going to have a picture going on a billboard in a few weeks. It just kind of blew up this past August. It's been fun!

20 years ago, my wife and I got married and spent 15 memorable days at Disney World. We went back with family a few years later, but haven't been back since... plus we were raising 2 young boys...

Yesterday, my wife and I went to the Disneyland Parks without the boys... in the pouring rain, and we had a great time. When we got home we decided to purchase a Disney World package at the Dolphin Resort to celebrate our 20 year anniversary with our boys to create new memories as a couple... and as a family. :)

I felt like I had been riding on that saddle, it's embarrassing fiddling with my undercrackers after dismounting, especially in front of people, so I tested a few saddles out, and now i'm in soft kitty heaven, no more checking for wounds :p

That's my new favorite word.

I decided I liked the grip strap I bought for my Olympus, so I ordered another one for my Nikon, this time in tan. I have a Really Right Stuff L-Plate on this body too and like the one on the Oly it too has a strap lug.

I was just wondering - mg/kg of what? 35 mg of the active ingredient - ok, but i don't get what the kg is, especially since its a liquid. Sorry - pharmacist in me coming out here.

So far, the cost has been $123.50 (at current exchange rate). The bottle was $98, and the shipping (not including any import tax or duty that may occur) is $25.50. Since it hasn't shipped yet, that's all I can tell you now.

You are, of course, right that kg is not a measure of liquid volume!:p

In the various articles that I've read, sometimes the thujone content (weight/volume) is given in KG, and occasionally, in Liters...which would make more sense. Since a Liter of water weighs about 2.2 pounds (good, now I've brought in another measurement system!:p), or about a KG...apparently the writers of the articles from whom I've cribbed use the two measures interchangeably.

OK, in the name of accuracy, the thujone content of the European produced absinthe may be as high as 35mg/Liter...the content of thujone in the bottle that I bought.

And it is confidence inspiring that a pharmacist wants to get measurement correct. In your business, rough estimates are NOT a good idea!

Ah, yes. Absinthe. Hm.

Well, as a European who had read much about the decadence of the old fin-de-siecle lifestyle in Paris, obviously, I had heard of the stuff. And its possible side effects. Which meant that it was banned for decades in much of Europe.

Later still, in this millennium, to my surprise, I encountered it for sale, legally, in Prague, but gave it a wide berth.

However, a few years ago, sitting in an especially dodgy if suspiciously well furnished hotel restaurant, the sort that came with a good kitchen, a very well stocked bar, many staff, but no paying guests, (the sort of plush hotel where they were surprised if you turned up asking for a room, even though it was conspicuously empty, and astonishingly opulent; local lore had it that the owner - who subsequently vanished - was a sibling of a Government Minister), in a regional city in Kyrgyzstan, to my surprise, I saw several varieties of Absinthe on the shelves. Tiring of local beer, and indeed, local wine, (and avoiding both local vodka and local cognac) I must confess that curiosity overcame me, and I sampled it, on two consecutive evenings.

Well, it had an effect similar to what the sublime work (one of my all time favourites) The Hitch-Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy described was experienced by Ford Prefect after he consumed a drink that he called a 'Pan-Galactic Gargle-Blaster'; a sort of sledge hammer on head feeling, but applied horribly blissfully. Alas, it verged on the, um, transcendental. Unfortunately. Never again. Never, ever, ever, again….

Me, I'll stick to cognac in future…..

I did a bunch of reading about thujone, the wormwood extract that was, at one time, thought to be a hallucinogen. Apparently the reputation was a result of several anecdotal reports by members of the art community and the demimonde of absinthe's effects (as well as the painting, L'absinthe, portraying a dissolute looking woman).

The story of Van Gogh's unfortunate ear experience is often attributed to, among other things, his consumption of absinthe. What is not often mentioned (it makes a better story) that he had been drinking a whole lot of other alcoholic beverages in addition to the absinthe.

There was a time when thujone was thought hallucinogenic because of the resemblance of the thujone molecule and the THC molecule. As a result, absinthe was outlawed in many places, both in Europe and the US. Research has demonstrated pretty much conclusively, that thujone is not a hallucinogen. Absinthe with a thujone content of 35gm/L is legal in Europe and the UK, and with a content of no more than 10mg/L is legal in the US (we never let facts get in the way of irrational terror).

The explanation of the reputation anecdotally derived is that the effect is more related to the alcohol consumption than the thujone effect. Another theory suggests that the absinthe produced and consumed in the demimonde was of very poor quality, and contained contaminants that may have produced the purported addictive and hallucinogenic effects.

I do not, for a moment, question your own experience with the substance. That's why I want to give it a try myself!:D

Well, by way of mitigation, or explanation, one does not start by sampling the stuff; I had a beer or two each evening before addressing the Absinthe. Or, perhaps, a glass or two of wine. And, of course, since moderation is rarely a part of the experience, I confess that I did not confine myself to one single helping of Absinthe when I tried the stuff.

My Canadian colleague contented himself with quaffing a few beers, subsequently washed down with er, some considerable quantities of vodka, for which he had an extraordinary appetite, and which appeared to have little - or, not much - effect on him. He was openly fascinated by my experimentation with the Absinthe (having warned me against it) but declined to join me, watching and sipping his vodka instead.

In addition to the standard Absinthe (which, I will readily admit, was all too delightful), there was an evil beverage which went by the name of 'Black Absinthe', which glittered, with an obsidian glee, from its perch behind the bar.

Found this...

Absinthe is an extremely potent flammable liquor that tastes like licorice and is usually mixed with water and sugar before drinking. It comes in blanc (white), vert (green - traditional color), red, and black with black being the most potent.

Ahem.

I am not certain if the obsidian object in question came with a picture of a skull and horns on the bottle; given that the location was central Asia, it is entirely possible that the label on the bottle looked rather different, and I rather suspect that it did.

However. The answer is 'yes'. I did. The second night, naturally.

And not as Bill Clinton famously described non-encounters with, well….whatever. And whoever.

And the sequel to such um, sledgehammer bliss is a heartfelt 'never again'.

Admittedly I'm loving all the information on Absinthe. I hope customs doesn't seize it, Shrink!

To stay on topic, last purchase was extra strength Tylenol. Battling my first (and hopefully) last severe concussion. :(

I picked up a Nikon D7100 today, open boxed for only £525. RRP is around £839 (although Nikon are doing a £100 off spring cash back promotional offer), so saved around £200 which can go towards my glass fund.

Thanks!:D I hope so, too.

Take care of yourself...I hope you've seen a neurologist about the concussion. It's not to be taken lightly.

I hope that awful headache resolves soon, Mate!:D
