New Setup

Hey guys, just finished cleaning up and getting my dorm setup the way I want it:

3989512250_76fa1ec180_b.jpg

Bigger, and with notes describing everything at the flickr page.

It's not as neat as, say, Bwa's setup, but I think it's pretty darn cool. The two flanking monitors are 1024x1280 (obviously portrait) and the two center ones are 1920x1200. I am studying computer science. You can see a Mac Pro (2.8GHz octocore/10GB RAM) and MacBook Pro 13" (2.53GHz/4GB RAM.) I couldn't be happier.

You're Flickr doesn't load as it cannot find the account (link correction needed).

Very nice setup. Looks like something out of a futuristic WarGames. Two questions for you: What are you running on the monitors (app) and also any specific area you're focusing on with Computer Science or just generic learning.

Fixed the link, thanks for telling me!

Thanks for the complement. Currently on the monitors, I'm running XCode (doing some iPhone work on an app I'm developing), a terminal open to the Mac Pro on the right side of the right 24" and a terminal open to my Linux server on the bottom of the 19". Learning the Terminal is a really valuable skill. I'm really interested in the areas of human computer interaction and user interface design, but right now my courses are not (unfortunately) that specific. I'd like to be a UI Designer or the designer of a new computer interface, which is actually my research project. I'll post about it soon.

Nice setup.

would annoy me to have two different monitors in the middle. But i have OCD!

Ahh...such is the life of a programmer. Reminds me of my setup. I just ordered a 9" DoubleSight USB monitor (Google it) to store my terminal on so I can use my laptop and 22" for code. Used to be an XCoder, but now I use SubEthaEdit :)

... if you spend you student loan on TVs and laptops, what are you going to live on?

Thanks for fixing the link, and the suggestions by others that I miss.

Terminal will be arcane for me as I'm still living & breathing in a Windows XP/7 world - most of my employers (contractor) use this exclusively. I'll agree that Terminal (like DOS on Windows) is a very important skill to have.

GUI designer?!! :O I look forward to your other postings and quite possibly you'll be working for Apple sometime in the future. Remember OS X is to last Apple 'for the next 20 years' as Steve Jobs mentioned himself during 2000/2001 announcement. I'm hoping you're looking towards physical gestures, vocal commands (seperated from natural speech or individually recognized from it), and possibly retina navigation or other means for the physically impaired/disabled.

Rock Onward my friend, rock on :apple:
