The location of those speakers are a little bit awkward don't you think?

Why is that monitor so high up and to the right? Isn't that a pain in the neck to have to look so far?

Where did you get that entertainment center? The stand with the TV and media?

Desktop icons always make me cringe... I have none on my Windows, Mac and Linux desktops. Mac and Linux show my HDD mounts though. That's it.

well a desktop has a purpose... ;) the most often used files are on my desktop... I don't like to dig around in folders or "spotlight" them when I can just double-click on them and get the work done.

So I guess you spend quite some time looking at your desktop ? ;);)

I use spaces a lot, so I keep windows per desktop space minimal showing my desktop off. Also, my terminal, Colloquy and Adium use translucent windows so I can see the desktop as well. Even with the 21.5" monitor safari only covers about half of it.

I dunno, I guess I use the desktop as more of a holding spot. If I need to drop something somewhere really quick before finding a permanent spot for it I use the desktop. Otherwise it's in Documents or something.

That's just my workflow. I use my keyboard a lot. Cmd+Space for Spotlight, Cmd+Shift+Space for Dterm. I hear people rave about Quicksilver for people like me, but I couldn't find a use for it more than what Spotlight does.

I do that too. But if I got a pdf I need to read I keep it on my desktop to get to it as fast as I can.. or at least a link to the actual file

Cmd+Shift+Space for what? I used it but it doesn't do anything :p

Regarding silverlight, I'm in the same boat as you.. spotlight does everything I need it to do.

I set it up as a hotkey for the application DTerm. DTerm basically is an instant command line for whatever folder you're in for a finder window.

I actually use it a lot. When doing development for iPhone LockInfo plugins, I have one window open with my text editor on one half my screen, then I have a the folder with my code in it open in finder on the other side, then under that I have a folder on my iPhone to drop the file in. I then do my coding, switch over to finder, Command + Shift +Space, type 'make package' and then drag the file to my iPhone. I could use SCP and as part of my make script... but this is pretty easy. It's pretty handy from time to time.

Interesting setup... not often you see clean laundry, TUMS, and deodorant intermingled with media... one question. What is the small white box on top of your DVR used for? I have one but have no clue what it is or how to use it. Something MSoft related right?

yeah its in my bedroom so i just have everything all in one.

i lost the infrared receiver that came with my computer so its a replacement. yes it works with Microsoft...so it controls media center....pretty cool

Actually, having files on the Desktop contributes to the slowing down of a Mac. If I understand it correctly the issue is that Finder has to draw and re-draw each one over and over and it slows the Mac down. I try to keep as few things as possible on my Desktop.

Redraw it over and over when? If the files change I know finder reloads them for the previews, but that's all I can think of.

Reduce desktop clutter

The desktop can be a great place to drop stuff, but because of the way OSXhandles desktop icons, putting stuff there can also slow your system down. The operating system treats each desktop icon just like a full-size Finder window—the icon takes up a chunk of memory, and the system has to track its position and size at all times. Drop enough files and folders on your desktop, and you may start to notice side effects (such as spinning beach balls) when you’re trying to do something as simple as open a new Finder window. Here’s one simple way to cut down on the clutter (and system drag) without losing that handy storage place: create a folder or two on your desktop (call them Need To Look At and Things To Do, for example), and then move all the items from your desktop into the new folders.

I hear people rave about Quicksilver for people like me, but I couldn't find a use for it more than what Spotlight does.

I started using Quicksilver when it first came out before there was a Spotlight. I keep installing because of the other stuff you can do with it: set up keyboard shortcuts for iTunes, control playlists without bringing up iTunes, and stuff like that. I don't think that most people need Quicksilver over Spotlight.

Now if only there were an app like that for Windows and Linux. :(

You're welcome. :D http://do.davebsd.com/

I may actually install this on my Ubuntu box because there is no spotlight.
