Edited out all but one picture; hehe sorry about that.
wicked you play Sax too?! I haven't played for years but i promised to buy an Alto this year - come Hell or High water!
A small part of me has fallen asleep since I last played.

I haven't really played for a while either! I hope I don't forget by the time I want to buy a new Tenor

Quick rundown of what's here:

iMac is a 27" i5 (w/4850)
MacBook Pro is the latest revision (2011; i7/8GB/6750)

The external is my trusty ol' MyBook Studio, which has served me well and thankfully still matches the Apple aesthetic.

I'm a designer and developer, as well as a digital illustrator, so the top of the desk is dominated by a large Wacom tablet (the two pens are the normal grip pen and the art pen, for those interested) and an extra wireless Apple keyboard, used solely while working on the tablet.

The mouse, although slightly hidden in shadow, is a Logitech G700. Although it is geared towards MMO gamers (and I do play MMO's casually), it, coupled with Steermouse, makes for a great power-user experience; lots of shortcut/hotkey potential.

The router is Netgear's WNDR37AV; touted as one of the best routers on the market. Too bad it's ReadyShare feature (one of the reasons I made the purchase) is about as reliable as a blind tour guide.

Coffee cup is filled with Earl Gray, because it's an ironic coffee cup.

I can't believe you keep a hard drive around which severs you on a regular basis. :D

Nice setup though. :)

Sounds like an old computer XD. I remember back in the days it was like some kinda miracle if you didn't manage to cut yourself inside a computer.

I remember those days... I've come close to cutting my self inside my Mid 2007 Mini while adding stuff. I'm surprised the audio still works after I messed up the connector for the small audio board...

Macs even look nice inside :D

How are they connected? I've never bothered with external drives. NAS is where it's at. ;) I don't even like to think about trying to transfer terabytes of data over usb. Plus being able to use the storage from multiple machines without having to plug/unplug.
Just rebuilt mine with 3x2tb in raidz.

Theyre quad interfaces with eSata but right now i just use FireWire 800 daisychained. completely handy. I picked up spare power bricks for them so i just unplug the drives and dock them back up when needed.
I would have simply gotten a drobo or built a storage server but its nice to pick a drive with me when I necessary.

That's true. I wouldn't be very inclined to move one very often anyway since you have to lug around the power brick too. I should invest in a portable (2.5") drive though.
I just find it funny how on most Mac setups you see a half dozen or more external drives all lined up.:p
On my desktop I don't really store much locally. I keep a copy of stuff that I want to have with me all the time like music, pictures, documents on my MBP. Everything else is pretty much stored on the server.

benjayman2:

I have been followings these mac setups threads for awhile now and this setup is awesome! I have wanted a room big enough to accomplish somethings like this.

By the way, the one thing that would make this room perfect would be the view out your window.. any good?

This is the actual set up though http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S69836093
I scored a great deal on CL for $60 :D So I was mighty happy when I looked up the price.

@Gator The view is pretty nice when the wild flowers are in fool bloom but as of now it's not the greatest. I'll post some picks when it warms up. The highway is slightly visible too, which is good for the commute but not for the view. Fortunately we can't hear any traffic noise at all. I miss the view we had when we use to live in the city in our early college days, but you get a lot more square footage for $ in the burbs.

That's not too bad. Ideally that would be awesome if you were overlooking the beach.. Would suck to see that during the day then an awesome sun set in the evening.

Just curious. Is that screen on the MBP the standard 1440x900 resolution or the Hi-res 1680x1050 resolution?

Just wondering why you ask? It's the standard resolution unfortunately... I ****ed up the order through the supplier.

Oh, the reason I asked is because the height of your menu bar on the MBP looks very short & so I thought that you have a Hi-Res screen. Anyway, based on the photo, it looks to me like you've got an excellent screen. :)
