More important: consumerism may become a serious disease. The question "do I need this?" is the most hard to make sometimes.

Couldn't agree more. I too used to "collect" Macs, mostly stuff I got free. Then I started to realize I didn't really need most of the stuff I had acquired, so I started selling off what I didn't need. I decided I'd rather have more space (and more money!) than more stuff, and I still believe that was the right decision.

That being said, I will be getting a 17" Ivy Bridge MBP when they come out-- but it'll replace my old 2006 15" MBP, not supplement it.

New Desk Setup for Uni

So got my external isight the other day off ebay wasn't gonna use the samsung display at first, but i discovered it had a magnetic top so I could use the magnetic mount for the iSight. I packed the samsung monitor away about 4/5 months back, but I suppose its good to put it to use since it was Samsung's flagship monitor in 2007 when I got it.

I feel this layout makes a much better study environment whilst I'm a Uni too with a nice sized monitor for pages documents etc.

Its running in Clamshell mode along with my 13'' unibody MacBook Pro which is black as I fitted a hard plastic shell to it to protect it from scrapes around Uni.

As for the iSight it works awesomely daisy chained through my external FW 800 G-Drive mini.

For speakers I use a Rotel RA-400 Amp connected to four sony speakers hidden away on shelves under the desk.

Macs not in the photo include my eMac, graphite G4, Mac minis, MacBook. Although you can see the 17'' Apple Studio in the background connected to my Quicksilver G4.

Nice setups! :)

I really like the IKEA EXPEDIT desk. Especially in combination with (i)Macs, it looks very sleek. Too bad my room is a bit too large for one of those... If I had a smaller room I'd definitely buy one.

My setup:

- Samsung CLX-2160N laserprinter

- Sims 3 (FTW)

Not visible:
- LaCie external HDD 500GB
- LG KM900 Arena 8GB (camera)

Here is mine:

This is pretty much my entire workstation at home. I co-run a record label so this setup is actually more than sufficient for my needs.

Semi New setup

So I replaced the monitor, and added an external hard drive, (It appears as if I added two, but one of them was inside of a different computer...)

I replaced the Acer 19" Monitor with a ViewSonic VA2431wm 24" Monitor (at 1920x1080...) Which is plenty big enough for what I do...

I also added a 2TB Western Digital MyBook hard drive for Time machine backups. On the left side of my desk is a simple black box that contains the 1.5 TB drive that used to live in the Linux based server, and is now being moved to the Mac Mini. I'm almost done getting the mini setup to replace my other server (At signifiant power savings too...)

Also: Before anyone asks about the wallpaper: http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper/details/2180/storm_field.html

Which Wallpaper is that? If it's a system wallpaper, I don't seem to have it on my MacBook...

So this is what it looks like, a few weeks before I move to a new apartment. New pics to come when that is done, of course.

I like the stig on the top shelf... perfect decor

Eventually I'd like to get a bigger desk and get another 2 27" monitors. But that's a long way off yet and 18" CRT is serving me well so far, especially since it was free :D

I decided to put my iMac's box to good use as well by sitting my printer on it :p
I've removed those cheapo speakers now as well, they were only there as I was testing them.

I like The Stig figurine!

How deep are most of your desks. I have a small space to put a desk an most i find are 18 to 20in deep. I found one that is 30in wide and 22in deep and thats the one im getting. I plan on getting a cinema display for my mbp and keyboard and mouse with the mstand. Will that be enough room for all my stuff plus some books. I dont have any of these things yet and its hard to judge size and depth off of these pics.
Thanks

Everyone posts such nice photo's here, my crappy previous ones just do not fit in. Alas, here are some new, less crappy ones.

The desk. (iMac & Dell U2711 connected to the Lian Li X2000F.)

The Macbook Pro with Dexter decal from Etsy.

Specifications and reviews on all devices seen in the pictures above can be found on my website.

Just wondering where you got those small-cubeish desktop speakers from? I've been looking for a small pair like those for casual listening as opposed to using my studio monitors....and also, how much were they?
