How??
I would be buyer :p Could you post more close-up pictures of that dock?
I haven't realized why Apple hasn't made Alu dock.. One of few things that is plastic..

I made it with a CNC machine i had acces to.

Sure thing. A bit of old pictures, and the last one i just took for your pleasure. Enjoy :)

1. Making the drawing + cut some bricks of aluminum.

2. First side made in the CNC

3. Final look when done in the CNC (sorry for not having a photo of the back)

2-1.jpg

4. After a quick sandblast. (Havent got it anodized yet - cost too much)

3.jpg

4.jpg

5. Mount the original cable. Tight fit so it wont go anywhere.

6. With iPhone 4 - 32gb white docked

I need some sort of rubber underneath. Thats why theres a cutout on the bottom side.

( Sorry for my poor english, it's a bit rusty. )

Dude, that is sweet! You need to go into business.

I dont have the founds to do that. I just hated that i have a aluminum laptop, aluminum imac, aluminum keyboard and a iluminum trackpad, aluminum and glas shelves over the iMac and the crappy plastic piece of a dock was not a thing i wanted on my desk.

Amazing design, funny to see that they use a bottom part, and i was thinking about that. I made my dock in the summer 2011 and i had the same idea, but didnt have the resources, and i only had my lunch break to use the cnc so it had to be as quick a production as possible.

Yeah, that's a new revision. His first designs didn't include it but I guess he got enough requests. I like that, from the start, he planned to offer a version with line out.

I'm genuinely surprised by how well his kickstarter has gone. I would have expected a goo bit of interest, but the level of interest he has received is amazing.

Of course, I like what you've done as well. And I'm saying that as a guy who's currently watching auctions for a larger Haas/Fadal/etc. VMC and looking for commercial space (I'll probably have to go smaller and turn down work though - can't afford a big Toyoda or Mori horizontal that would do everything I want to do).
;)

I keep telling myself: Gotta start small and scale up.

I'll post if I'll be able to make some more of them. Right now theres only that one. The other on the picture is a lot smaller because of a programming error.

Awesome. Would be lovely to have one of your own. I'd love to to, but people would kill me if I had that monster in my apartment :D

I have some other projects I want to make out of aluminum too but right now i dont have access to the CNC machine :(

Could you possibly send me the file for your drawing of the dock?

It's from IKEA, actually it's the one that another posted a link to :)

For what purpose might i ask?
- I just dont like sharing my drawings with everyone, because what if I get the idea of trying to sell my drawings, and people jo can google it.

So it depends on what reason.
