My current setup features a mid 2013 Macbook Air which powers 3 monitors (27'' Thunderbolt display and two other pc monitors. Peripheral wise my desk sports a Caldigit thunderbolt hub, a 2 TB backup drive and an addition 1 TB drive for Time Machine backups.

Blarregalia, what are you using to power the other two displays? I'm considering trading my Mac Mini in for an Air, but 3 displays is a big priority for me.

It's my understanding that using a Thunderbolt display kills the HDMI on the Caldigit, but I could very well be wrong. Either way, I'm very curious as to what you're using to run the 3rd display.

I reckon, the Thunderbolt display is into the thunderbolt port on the air, then the thunderbolt hub into the display then the other 2 monitors in miniDP and HDMI on the hub? Not sure the air would cope with that though, but thats the only way i can think off, or USB adaptors?

I tried this with my MBA 2012: MBA <> TB Display <> HDMI monitor, didn't work at the time?

However, I came here to post another picture of my temporary setup by daylight:

The iMac G4 17" is actually the external monitor I tried to use in combination with my TB Display and MBA. I do have to mention trying this setup was before Mavericks if that makes any difference.

I didn't know people collected the old iMacs. I found a color one(maybe it was a eMac??) when I was in college in garbage worked and we uses it as our iTunes network. Was super slow threw it out when we moved.

For iCheddar and daven85,
The Thunderbolt display is the first link in the chain, then that goes via thunderbolt to the hub. From there the miniDP goes to one of the monitors and a usb adapter to HDMI takes care of the third. I am going to switch the system around shortly though, Im going to try and utilize the Thunderbolt displays firewire port to connect to the third monitor instead of the adapter.
Over all the set up runs nicely but I am thinking of changing the monitors orientation because it seems that the portrait monitors aren't really helping for productivity. Suggestions would be great.

I only "collect" old Macs for their aesthetics, they are not meant for real use anymore. This particular iMac is now an external display (HDMI). I just love the look :)

Been wanting to post for a while. Got my Twelve South HiRise stuff finally in.
- Macbook Pro 13, with 16GB, and 512SSD
- JBL Creature Speakers
- Dell 2340M
- El Gato Thunderbolt Dock (in HiRise for Apple Display yes I know it's not an Apple Display)
- Apple BT Keyboard
- Apple BT Trackpad
- Xbox One Controller
- Xbox One Media Controller
- Logitech Webcam
- Magnetic Organization System

Theres still much much work to be done. Thinking about ordering the Twelve South adjustable arm for iPads, but don't know if it's necessary yet.

Not pictured, but in the room:
- Vizio 42' E-Series
- Xbox One
- Mac Mini (late 2012) 16GB, 512SSD + 1TB 5200 (configured to Fusion Drive)
- AppleTV

Need to do more cleaning up, and may post more pics. Got married last year, and moved my home office. It's been the last thing to get organized even though I spend about 60 hours a week in here.

Yep looks fine now, what do you think to the HiRise stand for your monitor, was considering maybe getting one.

I like it. If you are using it with a non-Apple display it may not be ideal. The Dell monitor in it seemed unstable, so I cut up pieces of the foam it was delivered with and used it to wedge the foot of the Dell monitor firmly inside.

Using a monitor higher up is all winning.

The front magnetic face is really nice too. Though I do keep mine locked since the Thunderbolt Dock is inside of it and I like the ports setup a certain way.

Forgive the bad picture, but I'd thought I'd post an update to one of my favorite threads.

After my 2011 MacBook Pro died, Apple replaced it with a high-end 2013 Retina MacBook Pro. Before this I was using my Mac in clamshell with a mStand and Apple keyboard, but this screen is such a joy to use that I have downgraded my monitor to a as-needed second display and only use the mStand when needed.

-2013 rMBP 16GB Ram, 512GB SSD, Nvidia 750m
-23" LG 1080p monitor
-The "New" iPad
-iPhone 4S
-Apple Magic Mouse, Keyboard, and mStand
-And yes, a PS2: It still works!

Slowly working on the rest of the decor since redoing the office. Added the accent chair & table and the wall shelving.

Yeah I'm not sure what display to get anyway but leaning towards an apple one, I like that you can lock the front I didn't realise that, thanks mate.

I was looking into one of those Dell monitors but I don't like the glare. How do you find it? I can see you in the reflection on the display.
