I really enjoy looking at people's setups and getting ideas for my own.

Like many people, I've spent the past 12 months working at home and have got a completely new setup, though I'm still tweaking it even now. It's really occurred to me that the desk is like a cockpit, and you need things in easy reach. Your dominant hand has a big impact on where those things go too.

But there's one question I keep asking of a lot of the setups I see (especially the really clean ones that I tend to lust over the most!): where do you put your drinks? ?

Presumably people are drinking tea/coffee/water/other at their desks. I look at a lot of the pictures and freak out about how close any drinks might be to computers/speakers/iPads! Maybe it's because I have a 6 year old, a 3 year old and a cat in my house ?

Any drinks in the area of my workstation are in closed containers. I have a couple of Yeti cups - a 32 ounce cup with lid and straw for cold drinks... and a 12 ounce Yeti "mug" for coffee. It, too, is covered. Since I am left-handed, the cup that I am using at any given time sits on a coaster about 18 inches to the left of my mouse/keyboard.

I spilled a cup of coffee on a MacBook Pro about 8 years ago, and it was an expensive lesson... but one that I learned well. I have also switched to an iMac for my primary workstation... so if it ever happens again (it won't!), I am replacing a $100 keyboard instead of a $2000 MBP.

About 6” from my Mac mini. I’ve not had an issue yet. No children or animals in my house.

Fine as it is, it's real..... I don't understand why folks post pristine set-ups, House and Garden style, all for show and seemingly unused. They look like follies for the idle rich.

Nice selection of photos. Good to see people printing their photos still.
Thanks. Just some captures in my life time when I was younger travelling and when we could travel lol... I don't print often only when I offer prints in Wedding packages/Portrait packages or whenever clients request them but its not often I sell a print. It gets costly...

Just got the Sennheiser Momentum 3. And it's so good. Audiophile Bluetooth quality. Don't understand how people could prefer de Sony's over this. Compared them both and the Sennheisers are producing a much better sound.

Here is my work from home/personal set up. It's all sitting on a sit stand desk that I got about a week ago and I absolutely love it. I didn't really think I would use the stand feature very often but when sitting in a chair Monday through Friday for a minimum of eight hours a day its been a huge improved difference.

Also pictured:
Logitech MX Master 2(or 3 can't remember)
Mac Mini M1(behind the vertical monitor)
LG 38 inch ultra wide
Dell 24 in screen(work provided)
LaMetric Time
Echo Show 5
Yootech cheapo fast wireless charger
And a big annoying work phone.

I just picked up the successor to your printer, the Pixma Pro-200 (looks like the 100, or the Pro-10 from your pics). I'm doing mostly fine art printing with some light photo printing (fiance is a photographer, mostly black and whites). I almost pulled the trigger on the ProGraf-1000, but considering my requirements it seemed like overkill. That said, I do wish there was another option in the same price range, with the same level of quality as the Pro-100/200, but went above the 13x19 size constraint. I don't need a pigment-based printer for most of what I'm doing, but it would've been rad to print at 16x20, especially for my digital/vector work, which would scale nicely at that size.

yes mine is the pro-10. I also wanted to get the Prograf-1000 but once I factored in the cost of running that printer it steered me away and also way too overkill for my usage. One thing I don’t like about my pro-10 is the ink cartridges don’t last. It’s a ink guzzler but they do provide awesome prints. The ink cartridges for the prograf-1000 are more then triple the price of the pro-100/pro-10 ink but at a much larger capacity per cartridge. 14ml vs 80ml. My pro-10 takes 10 cartridges vs 12 in the prograf-1000.

I recently cleaned up my desk a bit, so here is what I work with! I am thinking about getting some sort of LED light bar to put behind my iMac. I did this to my TV by attaching LED lights to the TV itself so it reflects on the wall behind it, but I just can't bring myself to defile the back of my iMac, lol!

Go for it... most of the LED strips are self-sticking and non-marring... I love the effect in a darkened room...

Nice, clean and efficent (?).

I love Apple products as much as the other person ... but I never understood the want/need to have multiple machines for just 1 person (if this setup is just yours) ?

I do get one maybe your corporate supplied Mac, and you don't want personal data/apps on that (iMac + MBP). I'm still trying every monthly review to have corporate save cost on the HP EliteBook they supplied, allow me to purchase the MBP (I'll expense it personally) and allow me to load the corporate Win10 image on it - which still can be managed and still secure, then my corporate HP can goto someone else without added expense.

Many people, including myself, have a need for a portable computer, but also like the bigger screen that a desktop has to offer. Sure, I could just buy a stand alone monitor, but I'm picky and I do not want to use non-Apple hardware.

Also, the bigger reason for me is my career. I became a real estate agent a few years back, so prior to that I did not need a laptop, and was content using my iPad for when I wanted to be portable. An iPad isn't always ideal for doing all of your work on it, so I needed to purchase the MacBook Pro. Will I always have two machines? Probably, to be honest. I will be very interested in the new larger iMac once it is released (I love the design of the new M1 iMacs, and assume the larger one will look the same).

I have my personal Mac Mini attached to two BenQ 27” 4K screens. I gave my work MacBook Pro connected to the same two screens. I’d have thought multiple machines is the norm these days. I keep my work/private life separate.

Here‘s a good yet highly subjective reason: noise. I tried a single-machine solution for a couple of years, consisting of a powerful MacBook Pro attached to an external 27” 4K display. The problem with this setup is that Apple’s abysmal fan curves don’t mix well with my sensitivity to noise. It’s a well-known fact that the MacBook Pro will turn into a jet engine as soon as you attach it to an external HiDPI display (or what Apple refers to as Retina).

Ultimately I had to give up, give in, and replace the single powerful MacBook Pro with a much less powerful 12” MacBook and a similarly powerful 2017 iMac. Would I prefer a single-computer solution? Definitely. But when you‘re stuck between a rock and a hard place you have to compromise, and I’d much rather deal with the (much improved) hassle of keeping two computers in sync than a wannabe 747.

This is incredibly dramatic.
