I so wish they'd do a Compact Anniversary Mac with an M1 chip or something. I'd throw a lot of money at it.
I'm still sad this was just a fan concept and not something that was real. I'd have bought it instantly.

Yeah yeah that’s nice and all but does it come in 7 vibrant colors? *ironyoff*There was a new concept from Ian Zelbo on twitter that dropped on my timeline today and for a second my heart skipped a beat.

It's on the latest MacOS and iPad Beta.Wait, has universal control arrived?
Excellent! It's on the latest MacOS and iPad Beta.
I couldn't wait anymore so I updated to it and so far, it's amazing.
Love the Cube. What's the silver cylinder in the box? Power brick? So my latest addition to my collection:
Original boxed Mac Cube G4 with 450MHz, 725MB RAM, 20GB HDD, Pro Keyboard & Mouse, Pro Speakers and 22" Apple Cinema Display (missed the 23" HD Display). Love how lovely it looks fact beside it's already 20 years old.
It boots on Mac OS 9.2 and has also Office 2001 on it. So perfect for writing a few letters or just enjoying old stuff.

I have a cube, but not in the box. And yours is in much better shape than mine. Theoretically mine works, but either it doesn't or the display doesn't. I've not tried to figure out which in a long while. So my latest addition to my collection:

Incredible condition all things considered. Love this setup too. Great addition! - eBay?So my latest addition to my collection:

Apple Display Connector (ADC) power supply.
So it works but you don't know if it works. So Schrödingers Cube? Maybe you can try to connect with a VGA display or maybe you have the ADC Adapter laying around to check the display...I have a cube, but not in the box. And yours is in much better shape than mine. Theoretically mine works, but either it doesn't or the display doesn't. I've not tried to figure out which in a long while.
Yeah I love the Cube! It looks so lovely and truly a design masterpiece combined with those acrylic displays. Just need to sand the case and polish it as it has some recognizable surface scratches.Incredible condition all things considered. Love this setup too. Great addition! - eBay?
Mine was complete with all (except original CD's). On the picture I forgot to add the speakers which are a bit worn and the black rubber is dissolving. Now I have all my favorite Macs in my collection. iMac G4 17", 20", Cube G4 and the white 24" Intel iMac.Damn! That’s a beautiful gem you’ve found and the setup just really allows this to shine! Museum wuality. Nice!
One thing I have to add was that mouse that came with the G4 cube, Apple design team really knocked this out of the park! I still remember the commercial & track for it!
The person I bought it from said it was working and I can tell it's powering up when its plugged in. I just can't get anything on the display (bought separately). I've put about 30 seconds to trying to figure it out - I basically just wanted to own it, not use it.So it works but you don't know if it works. So Schrödingers Cube?
Does universal control work in vertical modes (say if the iPad is located below the Mac display) or is it restricted to horizontal movements? It's on the latest MacOS and iPad Beta.
I couldn't wait anymore so I updated to it and so far, it's amazing.
the updated silver version was never an apple product so leave out the apple sticker and you could sell this legally as a iPad stand. Its just finding someone who will do it.I'm still sad this was just a fan concept and not something that was real. I'd have bought it instantly.
Just wanted to share my humble set up! Been building it up since the start of the pandemic.
The whole thing is powered by two devices.
Personal M1 Macbook Pro 13 inch.
Work issued Chrome OS device, Asus Chrome-box 4 (i5 10th Gen) actually not a bad machine. (Our company lives in G-Suite.) I do a lot of Spreadsheets, and it handles even the big ones, very well.
Normally, working at the office, I use a laptop (a Chromebook), but to keep it clean for WFH I actually requested a Chromebox instead of a laptop, since there is no meeting rooms to go to, and it saves space by not having another laptop on my desk. Downside, no meetings while on the toilet, i can live with that.
Now going in to a detail:
It's not that fancy, but took a while to justify even that to the wife! So, I guess, I am happy with what I got.
- Speaker - Creative T100
- Headphones
- Bose NC 700
- Old Corsair Gaming headset that is actually RGB, for video calls (mike is really good on this one)
- Airpods second gen
- Monitor Arm by Invision
- BenQ 27 Inch 4K screen (HDMI x2, DP and USB-C with PD)
- Mouse - MX Master 3 for Mac by Logitech
- Keyboard - MX Keys by Logitech
- Webcam - Logitech C920
- USB-C hub - Dockcase 7 in 1, 8 in 1 has been pre ordered, arriving soon (hopefully)
- Desk and Drawers - IKEA, basic stuff
- a Cactus
- I still use an iPhone 11 that works.
- I use an Apple Watch SE, 44mm the black one
When we go back to the office, whenever that happens, Chrome-box will get replaced by a Windows gaming PC of some sort, hopefully, my son will be a bit older then, and I get some time to play.
Now, can anyone guess the brand and model of my backpack?
Just a quick update to my set up, My DockCase 7 in 1 hub was replaced with a Dockcase 8 in 1 hub that arrived today. View attachment 1958147 View attachment 1958148
I’m really curious if you‘ve upgraded to a single MBP/MBA M1 based cpu and if the fan noise was significantly reduced to your liking/sensitivities where a single computing setup connected to a large external monitor is part of your setup? Here‘s a good yet highly subjective reason: noise. I tried a single-machine solution for a couple of years, consisting of a powerful MacBook Pro attached to an external 27” 4K display. The problem with this setup is that Apple’s abysmal fan curves don’t mix well with my sensitivity to noise. It’s a well-known fact that the MacBook Pro will turn into a jet engine as soon as you attach it to an external HiDPI display (or what Apple refers to as Retina).
Ultimately I had to give up, give in, and replace the single powerful MacBook Pro with a much less powerful 12” MacBook and a similarly powerful 2017 iMac. Would I prefer a single-computer solution? Definitely. But when you‘re stuck between a rock and a hard place you have to compromise, and I’d much rather deal with the (much improved) hassle of keeping two computers in sync than a wannabe 747.
