a random desk somewhere in austria

Hi Everybody,

this is how my desk looks (when its reasonably cleaned up).

Its a 2.2 Macbook, with a Samsung 22-inch Display and the big black thing is the reason my neighbours have stopped greeting me. Teufel Motiv 2.1 - a bit too loud for a flat, to be honest ;-)

There is also a LaCie 500 gb behind the BlackBook. I'm going to build a bigger custom desk in the near future, and I'll post pictures of the new setup!

why dont you make the Samsung LCD your main screen in Display preferences so you dont have your Dock, Menu Bar and apps on the tiny MacBook screen? or did you just set it up and youve already done that?

No, no, I actually think this is the perfect setup (at least for me - a recreational mac user)! I use the Samsung to watch videos sometimes. I can put the movie on fullscreen and still have a "computer" sitting right next to my "tv".

As I mentioned above, I'm using the MacBook mainly at home and when travelling. At work I have a PC (thankfully they gave me a second display) and the Mac is for fun only: Portable Media Center, Internet, Downloading, and the likes..

When I need the screen real estate for photo editing or stuff like that, I can still drag the app to the other screen..:)

Texas, unfortunately.
Here's some slightly better pics of the iBook. It actually doesn't really have a permanent set up, I only use the external mouse and monitor if I'm gaming or photoshopping.

I dont understand why alot of people is sitting on 600 crappy fat monitors, why not sell all of them and get 1 good one?

Because two crappy monitors are better then just one good one when you need more then one monitor. (I actually have 4 or 5 CRT's in storage that I rotate on a bi-monthly basis)

Probably because those 'old fat monitors' are far better than any LCD that you could buy from selling them. For example, I just bought an IBM P275 for £78, which has an optimum resolution of 1600*1200@85Hz & can push up to 2048*1536@75Hz if I want to watch full HD. The colours are absolutely stunning. For the same price, I would be lucky to afford a POS 19" widescreen with awful colour reproduction, bleeding, uneven backlights, ghosting, low resolution, etc, etc, etc.

Then there's also the fact that many CRTs can be had for free. In the last 6 months, I have aquired a 20" SGI Trinitron & a 21" NEC/Mitsubish DiamondTron for nothing. If I wanted any smaller CRTs, I could easily get my hands on 10-15 of the things, today, absolutely free.

Just for reference, my primary monitor is a 21" IBM Trinitron CRT, my television is a 21" Sony Trinitron CRT, I have 3x more 20"/21" Trinitron CRTs in storage as well as 4x 15"/17" LCDs also in storage. The CRTs that I pulled from the trash look infinitely better than the (decent brand) LCDs I bought brand new.

^Makes sense to me. I'm all for using what works best for your needs, and if you can acquire them for free, awesome! In my case, saving space took precedence, and I switched over to LCD screens. I have no idea why those who prefer LCD over CRT feel the need to question those who don't.
