There's one strapped to the underside of the table. At least, I think there is.

Actually, very few of the devices are on at the same time, in fact, out of the 10 or so plugged in, only 4 are actually on right now!

Who was the Einstein at HP who decided to put ports directly infront of the trackpad?!

Ugh, it is kinda stupid.

I can see the point though, if you're using headphones.

It actually is a very nice computer, considering I got it for $400!
Aw, what the hell, I'll give you the specs.
1.8GHz Turion X2
1.5GB RAM
160GB HD
14" widescreen
Vista Premium, not bad with SP1
2MP webcam

Yeah, I'm kinda having to pry my sister off it. She thinks it's cute... good thing I'm going to build her a pink Pentium D box! :p

Not to do too much preaching, but from your picture, you've got a six-outlet adapter that's plugged into the wall, and then you daisy-chained the surge protector onto it and that runs over to the computers. And there are printers and speakers and high amperage things like that in the mix.

You should be *really*, *really* careful with this setup. If you did for whatever reason turn all that stuff on at the same time, you'd almost certainly trip the breaker and possibly also start a fire.

If you or your parents or anyone know what the power distribution is like in that room, you should see if there's a plug point on an adjacent wall that's on a different fuse, and see if you can set up the two adapters so that some devices are on one fuse and some are on another.

There's another outlet on the right side of the display, down next to my bed. I suppose I could put some stuff there...

There's also one under the triangular shelves that I was standing next to when I took the picture.

Would either of these be somewhat beneficial?

If they are on the same circuit, no.

Maybe you could install a split plug, as for a kitchen counter. One receptacle, two plugs, two different circuits.

Some rewiring would be necessary.

Yeah, as iJohnHenry said, it depends on the wiring. Usually for small rooms, you may be out of luck, because there may only be one fuse for the whole room. For bigger rooms, there're often two, and each controls two adjacent walls. So if you're lucky and the latter situation is the one, you can set up shop in a corner between the two walls and draw power from both sides....

Anyway, just be careful. Lots of multi outlet adapters + daisy-chaining + high amp equipment is dangerous, and carelessness is all you need to add to get in trouble....

I think my room is like 450 square feet, does that count as a "big room"?

I will most definitely try to not be an idiot with my power. I just removed the old behemoth LCD that was plugged in and put it in the closet.... what else can I do?

Oh, I can put the Creatures in an outlet on the opposite side of the room because their power cord is so long! Would that help me?

Shut everything down in the room, find the fuse/circuit breaker that kills the ceiling light, then go around the room with a desk lamp/whatever, to test all the plugs.

If they are all dead, then everything is on one circuit.

If there is a plug, on the other side of a common wall, and it's on a different circuit, you could punch a hole in the wall, install a new outlet, and tie into that circuit.

Otherwise, it's rewiring time.

You know, at this point, I've pared it down to the Creatures, the Dell E248WFP, and the two laptops. One laptop isn't even on, it just hibernates when I'm not using it. Surely this isn't very stressful?

I was talking about surge protection, not overload protection. A surge protector will protect your kit if lightining get's into your ring main. The overload issue is still relevant, but IIRC US sockets provide 15A of 115V AC don't they? He's got nowhere near enough equipment to overload the socket & although I don't know off the top of my head what the wattage of a US ring main is, he'll probably find that unless there are George Foreman grills grilling away in every other room on the circuit then there aren't going to be any problems.

Of course here in the UK we get 13A of 240V AC from each of our sockets on 30A ring mains :)

Edit: iMpathetic: if you're worried, check the labels on the backs/bottoms of the kit. Multiple Voltage (volts) by Current (amps) to work out Power (watts). Of course this is the MAXIMUM power that the device will ever pull. Your average laptop will struggle to pull more than 100W at full load & I doubt if those speakers will draw much more than 50W even if you're blasting Metallica at full volume. E248WFP might use ~85W. All in all, nothing to worry about.

Actually, I'm really not worried in the least at this point. I think getting rid of some stuff was a good idea, though.
Just to let you guys know, my outlet o' reliability has had 4 CRTs, two PMG4s, a PMG3, and a laptop in it, and it didn't break a sweat (spark?).

EDIT: What the **** do the gamers do with their Quad SLI fragboxes with 1.1kW PSUs? :D

TOO MUCH CHAT!

Kid has a point. ;)

I love the mousepad but I always wondered if I'd grow tired of it or if it would get all dingy. Though my hands are always clean there is still a fair amount of oil coming from my skin...as with everyone else's.

Well here's my setup. It may not be as clutter free as some of yours but I like it the way it is.

What's in the setup?
1) 24" iMac 2.8Ghz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HD
2) 16GB iPod Touch
3) Elgato eyetv 250 plus (2008 version with QAM tuner)
4) 750 GB WD myBook studio edition (I really wanted the firewire 800) (sits behind the iMac)
5) HP printer that I picked up at Sam's Club because I needed one.
6) 750GB WD mybook in the box yet (blue/black box kind of under the printer)

I can't really come up with a better solution for the cables under the desk at the moment but I'm going to give something a shot sometime soon.

P.S. This is my first Mac (bought in January) but I'm now looking to buy a Macbook just because I've been running a PC desktop/notebook setup for about 5 years now and I miss the notebook at this point.
