What mouse are you using?

I have the Microsoft Trackball Explorer. You can find info about it here:

Microsoft Trackball Explorer

Best darn mouse that ever existed, period (in my opinion). For the wrist, you just gotta go trackball. This mouse has four regular buttons, a button-clickable tactile scroll wheel (making for a total of 5 buttons), and a comfortably huge trackball. Too bad it's no longer manufactured! My first one died, so I ended up buying one on eBay for $150! Crazy, huh? It retailed for around $60-80 new when it was in the stores/online stores, if I remember correctly.

No other trackball can come close to this bad boy. The only thing that could make it better would be wireless bluetooth built-in! :D My first one lasted me over 5 years, and I hope I get even more mileage out of this one.

Here's my current setup, which is very bare-bones. Behind that desk is indeed a sliding door. My place is pretty small so I'm limited with my options, but I'm going to be moving it all downstairs and changing the setup in preparation for the arrival of my new iMac :D

Hmm... Train Man, eh? Good book?

As somebody who has used many trackballs in the past couple of years, including two Microsoft Trackball Explorers, I have to say that I think that my current trackball, the Kensington Expert Mouse, is far better than anything else I've used, including the Microsoft ones. I much prefer the traditional central ball rather than the modern trend towards having it forward/side mounted & the ball on the Kensington is larger than the Microsoft. It's ridiculously comfortable & my RSI has improved vastly since moving onto it.

Hello everybody,
Been reading this thread for quite sometime but never got around to posting my setup. It's changed a number of times over the last few years (due to the addition of more and more stuff, and the fact that I moved hemispheres a few months back! :p)

On the table on the left is my incredibly old alarm clock! :p, a Nikon CoolScan 5000 (slide scanner) and a Microtek ScanMaker 9800XL A3 scanner.

From left: MacBook 1.83/2GB, iPod Touch 16GB, Maxtor One Touch III (300GB, 750GB, 750GB), LaCie DVD drive, LaCie 500GB HD (ontop of DVD drive), JBL Creature II's, Wacom Tablet (bought it from my old school at a bargain price of AU$50!) and Belkin Hub.

The Wacom is not always there - I have a M$ mouse (you can see it under the screen on the right)

The Wallpapers for both the macbook and the iPod are my own photography at Cardiff Bay (HDRs)

Not in pictures: Nikon D80

You cannot see a single wire underneath my desk. I bought 2 little racks that go under the desk at the back (there is a board that goes across and the racks are behind that). They were a rip off at £20 each from IKEA, but they do the job. The cables are a complete mess behind them but at least you can't see them!!

Planning on getting a MacPro with additional screen when I start uni in September (so I can get the discount)

P.S. I looked for a guide on how to upload pictures the preferable way but couldn't find one - is what i've done ok?

Awesome set up MacBook'06, Love the wallpapers. One of my favourite photography methods (though it changes regularly) is HDR. Unfortunately haven't been able to get many great city-scapes, living in a village :D

Hmm... Train Man, eh? Good book?

Excellent book! Do you know anything about it? There's also a drama series, movie, play, and several spin-off specials. The figure of the girl with the carrots sticking out of her is actually the same type of figure used in the movie; I got it super cheap from a store that obviously didn't know its value. I hope to sell it in the future for over ¥70,000, at least. We'll see...

I have my whole collection up on Flickr, if you want to see all of my Densha Otoko (Train Man) stuff. I also have a few pics of some of my Xenosaga collection.

The Kensington trackball looks interesting. I saw it in a store one time, very briefly tried it out, and kind of rejected out of hand. Now that you give it such a great testimony, I think that mouse will definitely end up replacing this one when it dies (if it's still around). I might just buy one before they go the way of the dinosaurs, because I like the scroll wheel.

Was wondering, do you know if you can set the scroll wheel to be the jog control in a video editor such as Final Cut Pro? If so, that'd be one very sweet mouse. Also, love the four buttons, because I absolutely have to have Exposé functionality on my mouse; can't live without it now.

Off hand I'm afraid I don't know. I only used the bundled Kensington MouseWorks software briefly on my MacBook, because the trackball has spent ~99% of it's time connected to my Linux desktop & Kensington unfortunately don't release any software for Linux. I'm sure there would be a way, even if not a strictly 'official' one!

Here's my new setup downstairs, waiting for my iMac to arrive. For some reason, Apple still hasn't acknowledged receipt of my bank transfer. Grr....

I just cleaned my office... sort of. I am waiting for them to give me the okay to buy a 24" imac! Then I'll move the monitor home and use it with my mini.

Here is mine, I just got the monitor and desk today. I have my MBP and 360 running to the monitor, and then my iMac on the right.

Interesting keyboard arrangement you have there. Do you mind reaching your hands over one keyboard and mouse to get to the other?

Well I just pulled that out to show the other keyboard there, it slides back in when I'm not using it.

I posted about midway through the first of this series of 5 threads with a 12" Powerbook G4 over 4 years ago. Today that machine is still going strong, my wife is actually using it right now. Since then we've added a Mac Mini, 17" MacBook Pro (very 1st generation they came out with that I recently sold), the pictured 20" iMac (I absolutely love the white version over the new design... the new one didn't match my matte finish external display) and this brand new 2.4 MB. The iMac is 2.16C2D for those interested. Also pictured are my 3 year old keyboard (the best one I've ever had), my Logitech trackball mouse, and Apple Wireless Mighty mouse (for the MB).

I love that keyboard - have one on my desk, but I had to remove that lift.

I'm curious: what is the silver round knob-like device next to your mouse? I saw it in a store that specialized in selling used Macs in Osaka, but when I tried to fiddle with it, it became clear I either didn't have the right program open, or it wasn't properly connected; it didn't do anything.

What does it do?
