I'm curious: what is the silver round knob-like device next to your mouse? I saw it in a store that specialized in selling used Macs in Osaka, but when I tried to fiddle with it, it became clear I either didn't have the right program open, or it wasn't properly connected; it didn't do anything.

What does it do?

It is a Griffin Powermate (http://www.griffintechnology.com) that is customizable to do many functions. For example in Firefox turning the know left or right scrolls up and down. Pressing the knob down while scrolling left or right goes Back and Forward in the browser. In Finder it acts as a volume knob. In iTunes it acts as volume/play-pause (with a click), seek fwd/back (press + rotate). Using the powermate in Entourage when i rotate left and right it scrolls, when I press down it sends/receives email. It also can function as a jog wheel in Final Cut/iMovie. Its really just an all around nice tool to have. like I said, fully customizable in system prefs.

Now you've done it -- you've gone and made me want one. I'm now torn between picking up the Kensington Expert Mouse (which has a built-in scroll wheel), or just add the PowerMate to my current setup. It'd be cheaper just to get the Griffin, but the Kensington means that I have a whole 'nother mouse, so I could take my current one to work or something...

My meager little project studio setup:

There are real speakers placed around the room, for when I need to shake the place up a bit.

Love the Torq, do you find it easy to use compared to vinyl / cd players etc. ?

Yeah, I've been thinkin about this Powermate for a while aswell, and you might've made me want one even more. I'm sitting with a MBP 2.4ghz 15.4" (latest one) and it only have 2x usb-connections. Anyone who can throw me a link of a good USB-hub which have a cable so you can hide it in a drawer or something? Thanks

I love this hub, have purchased one and sold many at my place of business... http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=158910
Only problem, though, is the PowerMate only has like a 2 ft. cord so placement will be an issue unless you have a USB extension cable.

Here is my new setup, featuring my brand new 24" iMac. I just made the PC-to-Mac switch yesterday:D. Here is my setup from left to right:

-Xbox 360 Elite
-Playstation 3 40Gb
-HP Monitor 19"
-Sony Vaio Laptop (Windows Vista)
-Philips 2.1 Speakers with Sub
-24" iMac, 2.8ghz, 4Gb RAM
-Motorola Razr2
-iPod 30Gb
-Framed document for official certification as a US Army Combat Medic
-(Below) US Army dog tags

This iMac is incredible. I can't imagine ever switching back (don't think my laptop to its left will get much use now :p ). I'm moving into a new place soon, so I'm waiting until after that to purchase a new Samsung 46" 1080p HDTV as well as a 5.1 or 7.1 Sound System. I'll probably use that HP monitor as a second monitor for my iMac once that happens.

They look like Grado earphones, and Audioengine A2B speakers. Not sure about the amp though.

Do I spy a Roland Juno-G in the bottom right?

Edit: Love the Shuffle clipped to the curtain!

for DVD or Game : iMac -> TOSLINK -> iBasso D1 -> Headphile BlackSilver Mini to RCA cable -> audioengine 2 -> Monster Cable Z2 Reference
When I watch movies at night, I need to use headphones. D1 have a headphone jack. It's a headphone amp w/DAC, of course.

for iTunes : iMac -> USB cable -> SUPER Pro DAC707-USB -> TARA-Labs Prism 3 RCA cables -> WooAudio 6 -> Grado SR-225 Headphile Zebrawood Mod with BlackMax cable -> banana hanger;)

and fun with a Juno-G.
