The point is, if you are going to spend out on a floating display like that, then surely its worth the extra little for the apple display.... ts a valid comet
spend out?

you guys are acting like a vesa mount costs 300 bucks

floating your monitor is not a huge extra expense to add, considering you pay 400 max for the dell...350 if u get the sale and coupon that most ppl pay. so no, that comment is not valid.

So what about the cable? you don't have to spend out to hide that in the wall then?

Its's a valid comment to me, you saying otherwise means nothing. I suppose it depends what type of wall he has.. mine would cost about £500 ($925) just for the work

Actually, I can wall mount my lcd for $50. For another $50 I can hide the cables in the wall. If you have even half the knowledge of how to patch up the seemingly large hole you're going to cut to hide the cables then you can get away with doing this for $100 +/-.

As far as dell screens, when comparing you're not comparing pro to consumer. All LCDs that most of us have are consumer items. A dell lcd can be calibrated just as the apple displays can. Both will require some sort of high quality monitor calibration tool such as the spyder.

your house/apartment must be made of glass

a mount and some cables on a saturday afternoon and a drill
is all it takes to float a monitor
neither a large expense of money nor time

Another $50? If you already own the right tools, or borrow them, the cost to hide the cables would be negligible. You wouldn't even need a large hole to accomplish that... two separate holes only large enough to accomodate the adapters would be enough.

In my house (not being made of tissue) would have to have half the wall carved out, re-plasters, painted and to get someone in to do it would cost a bomb.
DIY and save some money. Or buy some U-channel molding.

No, It is made of the thing called brick.... It's not really a new concept.
well dont assume that the dude in this picture has the problem
its your problem not his
because its obvious from the pic that his wall isnt brick
lmao!

so what was your point again?
oh because your walls are made of brick
it must of cost this dude a ton of money to float his monitor on a non brick wall
enough so that buying a dell and floating it isnt worth it
cuz he could of gotten an apple
even tho his walls arent brick
or because you assumed you knew the complete scope of such a project
after many ppl in this thread have already told you
that this isnt an expensive project

oh ok
i get it now

thanks

It doesn't matter what lcd you have if you want to float it...float your boat. But don't try and validate a comment like "why not spring for an apple display" as being a valid comment...come on. There are tons of reviews on the net comparing the displays. Its a personal taste to which display you prefer don't rag on someone because they have a dell and not an apple.

That's gorgeous, I love floating panels, but who in their right mind would go to the trouble to wall-mount (hiding cables) a Dell screen? *shakes head*
Are you freakin' kidding me?! What a stupid comment!

It's not a stupid comment. It's a valid point. Dell monitors have a lot of cables. A separate one for DVI, VGA, power, USB, etc. Seems like it'd be more of a hassle then a monitor with one cable. :p

Wow.

Uh...setups - not Dell versus Apple Flame War.

Yeah, really. What is so wrong with Dell displays? Using one right now and it's an excellent monitor. But I guess since it doesn't have the Apple logo, it sucks ass and doesn't deserve to be made! Plus, I actually happen to like Dell's computers as well. OMG, OMG, I know you can't believe I just said that but just b/c it runs Windows doesn't mean the computer it self is crap.

Go read the post where it was asked why they bothered to go to all the trouble of floating a Dell Display...if they were to do all tha work hwy not get an apple...thats what started all this crap up. Back to the setups...I need more ideas.
