My new dual screen setup! The ACD is absolutely gorgeous. I'm glad I didn't go with Dell. I don't care if the panels are identical--allegedly. :)

17" iMac Core Duo
20" Apple Cinema Display
$20 Folding Table

Dang that's sweet.... :D

Many people have done dual screen setup's with iMacs, but I've rarely seen it with Apple Cinema Displays...;)

It's also nice the way you have the dual screen background.. It's just sad you have to place a book under the ACD.

I just gotta ask you though, how's the 128 MB X1600 treating you? Is it okay for a total of 3 megapixels? 1440x900=1.3 mpx + 1680x1050= 1.7 mpx= 3 mpx.

Is that a BENQ widescreen?

Yep. It was on sale for like $280 on buy.com last week so I snagged it. It is a pretty good 20" widescreen as well for what I paid for it.

It's not even a book, it's the yellow pages. :( The folding table and book are just temporary while I am in Los Alamos for the summer. When I get back to Berkeley next month, I plan on cutting a piece of wood to match the ACD's base.

The OS X windowing system feels just as snappy, but some things, namely Expose and the Dashboard, are just slightly choppier. You wouldn't even notice, unless you were as picky as I am  . The most graphics intensive app I use is iPhoto, and I haven't noticed any difference between single and dual display.

I think having lots of system ram is makes the biggest difference. Having two screens reinforces my habit of having several applications and windows open simultaneously. My iMac flies with 2GB.

Yay Classic! :D

So, how are you OS 7 on the Cinema display? No systems from that era had DVI -- are you using an emulator?
Classic within OS X? Maybe?

It's an 8600 with a Radeon 7000 - which does has a DVI port. It is not being emulated. Mac OS 7 fully supports ATI cards up to the Radeon 7000.

EDIT: I lied - that particular picture is with the SheepShaver emulator, however since taking that picture (a while ago) I have run the same setup on my 8600 which has the Radeon 7000 a few times. It is not my display though, my permanent display is a ViewSonic 20" LCD - which also has DVI. This post on page 200 of this thread shows my permanent setup. The viewsonic is attached to both the PowerBook and the 8600, so I can easily switch between OS X for work and OS 7 for my web site purposes.

Classic mode in OS X cannot run Mac OS 7.

A few more for you....

Very very nice. That Vaio display is badass. Or is it a Sony TV?

But that keyboard looks rather uncomfortable... :(

Hi, and thanks again :)

Yeah, the keyboard can be a bit of a pain, don't need a wrist support as I rest my elbows on the side of my big chair, but the keys are a little small, it goes to well with the Sony to change for now.

The Sony is a dual function device, it's HDTV compliant with a built-in tuner while also having DVI and standard VGA inputs (among others) - it's easily as sharp and colourful as any other dedicated Sony X-Black monitor I've ever seen but with the advantage of giving me a widescreen future proof TV to :D

Hey guys, well since I'm getting a MacBook Pro soon, my old desk does not have enough room for an iMac, a MacBook Pro and doing homework. SO yesterday I went to IKEA and got a new desk! So I have some pics, enjoy. Also, when I order the MacBook Pro I'm going to order a apple wireless mouse and keyboard, this way everything will look amazing together.
