Here's (an older photo of) my edit suite -- a pure video editing setup. I use this setup purely for video editing (I use my MacBook pro for other stuff -- email, internet, etc.).
I posted this a while back, but this thread is too long to go digging to try and find it.
I wish I had a job that required the latest and greatest mac out there. Too bad I never got into photo editing. Here's to getting the most out of your old mac!!

A Power Mac 8600 with an AVID controller is a real video editing setup.
I do video editing, although it's 98% weddings so it's not anymore hard core than syncing words, pictures, videos, and transitions to music. As well as in-depth color correction. They do take quite a bit of work for the DVDs we make though. My setup is just my MacBook and the iMac at the Studio which I don't have a picture of, we use an HD editing program in Windows called Let's Edit, it's not near as complicated as programs like Sony Vegas and Final Cut Pro that I've used before while I was working for Dumb Dog Imagination. At the studio we have a Sony DCR-VX2100 (not HD), a Sony HDR-HC3 (HD) and I believe a Canon XL2.

I don't mind it, it's actually kind of nice to have the best of both worlds, Windows and Mac are so different. Mac isn't better than Windows, they really aren't even comparable.
So i figured id join in. just some quick snaps i did about 5 minutes ago of my desk workstation ( my portable made a cameo appearance too! as well as my bludgeoning tool. err.. i mean canon 1DmkII )
1st pic: a nice little in-your-face mug shot of my DP 2.7 G5 w/ my 5G ipod in the background
2nd pic: now with a look to your right, you will see my 23" cinema display, and some gadgets ( woo DS lite! ) and yes. iTunes is pumping out NIN currently
3rd pic: continuing on farther to your right you will see my road warrior. rev. E 15" Powerbook <3
4th pic: and if you swing back over to your left you will see a profile of one of my work-horses. Canon EOS 1DmkII w/ a 35mm f/1.4L currently mounted.
just a ps- sorry the pics arent anything fabulous, my room isnt really laid out right to set up any kind of nice lighting, plus the lighting outside is just awful lol. but you get the idea

haha thanks... i tend to be overly critical of myself and any image i release on the web. but it's not always a bad thing, its usually good for business! haha.

That is indeed an FX1. It's a great camera, and whether you're shooting SD or HD, the image quality is amazing.

If not the Canon what did you use to shoot these photos?
The company I work for is a Network Imaging Corporation for weddings and corporate events. Mostly Photography and some Videography. The videos we edit in Windows is already an easy established workflow. Most people who work for the company are Photographers themselves and are not required the prior knowledge of Final Cut Pro and the teaching of it would be waistful of time. We would use Final Cut if it wasn't just simple montages.dpaanlka said:
