Your other printer caught fire??

Slight exaggeration, it started smoking halfway through printing a few pages of notes. I turned it off real quick :D

RMA, and got a new one (same make and model - Samsung ML2010, and no complaints. Good little printer really, good value. I keep an eye on it though when it's doing its thing o_O

I just noticed how thick your speaker wires are...holy CRAP. That amp must be fighting a lot of resistance.

My dad's into that whole audiophile thing, so they're a hand-me down. IIRC something was mentioned about the cabling costing more per meter than the pair of speakers themselves, so it probably represents a fair amount of overkill. In theory thicker wires gives a better signal, because as alFR said conductivity is proportional to area. The shielding from interference is also better.

But tbh, a lot that audiophile stuff is largely crap I think. Someone tried to talk up not changing the direction of speaker wiring (keep the amp end at the amp and the speaker end at the speaker if you move / reorganise your setup) because the 'electrons get used to flowing in one direction' and 'the conductivity improves in that direction'.

Still, I'm waiting on my the next upgrade to try and get my mits on a 2nd hand pair of BWs. Good speakers, but it'd probably mean buying a new amp to drive them.

wow thats awesome just read the wiki about this never knew that

soo electricity flows better for suck devices other than heating and incadescent lighting as thicker cables because it causes less what I see as heat and loss of transmision. I hope I got the idea of it.

I guess this person doesn't have a clue about how amplifiers or speakers work. HINT: Alternating Current causes the speaker cone to move, meaning, the electrons will go in both directions.

Here's my (posed) setup circa October 2005. This was when I lived in London. A few items have been upgraded since then, and I may post an updated setup.

From what I can remeber (as soon as you leave uni with an electronics degree you forget all the phyiscs crap) electrons do not move. Current is provided by the chain reaction of changing electron charge. You do get a certain amount of electron drift but that is so so slow. About half a mile per year I think in copper.

Google it people. C'mon! No excuse for not knowing now...

Anyway, I have just moved apartment and I have some badass speakers and will make a post on here.

I like the MacBook and big screen combo. Really sweet. I was debating doing that but the iMac G5 is just too cool to sell.

How do you expect caffine free anything to keep you awake for a late night of C-Programming? ;)

It's diet - still got the caffeine fix, but no sugar. The 'fat' coke/pepsi gives you all the sugar-rush problems. I get the shakes, then have to move on to the whisky. Whisky's good for late-night programming - provides the necessary zen aura of reflectiveness and concentration :)

my new dual screen setup.
Macbooks work well in dual screen. Important stuff on one screen, junk on the other.

Actually from my experience, MacBooks suck at dual screen because they don't have enough video ram. The MBPs are much better. I had a 23" ACD hooked up to my MB and I when I got rid of it, the computer was so much smoother and faster just on the MB's display.

My dad had a 540, I think its probabaly still somewhere in his basement. I'll take a look next time I there.

Why have you been sitting on so many old laptops? Obviously you dont use them.

let me guess... some company was throwing them away and it hurt your heart to see a mac in the trash;)

Okay, so its a mess, but it looks like i'm one of the few people here who use a mac for things other than Photoshop :p
Mid-way through a write-up for mah degree, hence the build up of literature and caffeine abuse...

P.O.S. PC for counter-strike purposes only these days.

New printer, after the last one caught fire :(

Moving house in a few months, got a nice little office-space marked out. Trip to Ikea to pick up a more sensible sized desk, and hopefully the setup will fit in a bit better with the dominant aesthetic here :D

If that book your reading has anything to do with physical chemistry, i pray for your soul.
