Spot on....I hate when people horde the money, and never plan to spend it. (Not that I'm saying don't save any, I'm currently not buy Xbox 360 because while I have the cash , if I want a iPhone, 10.5 and iWork(maybe iLife) I shouldn't buy the 360)
I feel sorta the same way, the reason we work is to make money; And the reason we make money is to spend it on stuff we want. I will admit that I can be a cheap person at times, but it is only because I like spending my money on things that I think have value and are worth my money. I like spending my money on tangible things, I hate spending money on consumables. I'm not a big drinker nor do I like going to the bars. I would rather spend $20 to get a new DVD then spend it on a night of drinking.
While I like to buy things, I only buy things when I think I am getting a deal on it. For example, I am in the market for a new TV. I don't just look at bestbuy, I shop around everything; online, instores, read reviews, talk to friends, etc. I want to know that the money I am spending is going towards getting the best value. Know that say spending an extra $100 or something adds value to the tv such as better contrast ratio or more inputs or a larger screen, etc.
My girlfriend and I get in these arguements all the time. She might find a really nice set of dishes she wants, I ask her what makes them so much more expensive then others and she just says "they look nice". I have a hard time seeing value in that, my brain works in a practical way, I need a practical reason why something is worth the extra money. I guess that is why I am an engineer, we are trained to think in this manor.
But everyone is different, if someone wants to spend all their money on one thing, it's not our place to say they can't. As long as he/she is paying all their bills and taxes and not on wellfare where the rest of us have to pay for them, then I don't have a problem. I have problem when people spend all their money, then needs the government to support them, thus using the money of the rest of us.
