Original Netbook (even if it doesn't do internet) :)
emate500.jpg

Forgive my stupidity. Is that a Newton?

You're lucky you got yours! I placed an order on G1G1 and they never shipped one to me…so i canceled it and got a nice 8GB iPhone :)

How do you like it? is it slow/laggy?

Oh i like it alot. I always get looked at weird when i pull it out and get asked if it's a toy and its not that laggy, compared to some other netbooks, and it runs linux pretty well and i can install all the software available to fedora...

looks like a fresh install. im sure the dock will be put on the side.

whats up with the huge bezels around the displays? cant they make the display take up almost all of the room on the lid? or is that the biggest they can make the screen due to specs?

i made it pretty small at the bottom and turned the magnify on full.. works great

Any quirks with running OSX on the AA1? Do things like the sleep, 2 finger scroll on the trackpad, webcam, and headphone jack work?

Sorry for the delay in responding.

The acer is very similar to the wind. So the same thing applies.

There are a few quirks. Firstly the sound card requires you to swap to headphones manually. Sleep doesn't work at present. The memory card readers don't work as they have no mac drivers. Webcam works fine as does everything else. (I've got a apple wireless N card in for the wireless). I believe 2 finger scrolling can be enabled. However we use a logitech nano mouse instead so I've not bothered.

It's not perfect, but close enough.

Sleep doesn't work yet? :( I think that's a deal-killer for me. What happens when you close the lid?

Nothing as I've set it to do that. If you didn't what happens is the system hangs and you need to reboot.

It's being worked on as it's a big bug in the OSX86 community so I'm sure it will have a solution soon. Personally it's not a big issue. I very rarely use sleep.

As I posted in another thread my 1000h running osx, everything works perfectly except for sound which isn't an issue since I use it to take notes. I can't wait to get sound working though so I can upgrade the hard drive to 320gb which can be found cheap these days and use it as a mobile media player with front row too!

I've been surprised at how fast it is, I normally have safari, adium, netnewswire and evernote running at the same time and expose works perfectly with quartz extreme. Not bad for $400.

I would LOVE to know how you did this with your 1000h. I am in the market for a cheapskate netbook for typing in class/browsing, but I don't want to abandon OSX.

Is it simple enough to puzzle through for someone without much Terminal experience?

Thanks in advance!

What is battery life like?

I get about 5 hours, with the backlight down low, bluetooth off, and wifi on (and in use). I recently started using coolbook, and it seems to run undervolted at 1.1/.9v stable and adds another 30-40 minutes battery life.

Your netbook looks massive compared to the 15" MBP. The 1000H looks only slightly smaller than a MacBook.

Its 2.25" width and 1.5" depth smaller. I've been torn about this for a while. The story goes like this: had 901, removed SSD, installed OSX on zif 1.8" drive. Give it to my mother because she wants it (after paying for 6 years of college, I'll give her whatever she wants). Order new 901, but they don't have zif connectors anymore. Send it back; opt for the 1000h (only model with atom + HD). It's bigger than I expected (that 1.25" really does make a different), but the keyboard is a thousand times more comfortable than the 901 was. Want to trade 1000h for old 901 with mother, except she has broken it.

Now that the 900ha is coming out (8.9", atom, HD), I'm thinking about picking it up. Give the 1000h to my mother so maybe she can use it instead of breaking it. Except for the keyboard... it's like night and day.

Oh. Decisions... decisions...

So I finally saw an EEEEEEEEEEPC in person. How the hell does anyone type on these things? You folks must have the smallest hands.

Me, I have big hands. And big feet.

Which kind of eee? Certain eees, like the 1000h, has a 92% full sized keyboard which makes it pretty easy to get used too.. the 901 and below is another story though.

I didn't notice the model, but it was $400, I think. It would have to be considerably bigger to work for me, so I think I'll stick with my MBA.

I was originally saving up for an Eee 1000, but after what you're saying I might go with a 900 model instead. I'm in college and my main concern is weight. I want a laptop so light that I can forget that I had it in my backpack ;). The reason I wanted a 1000 is because of the keyboard, how every site on the internet said the 1000's keyboard is so much better than the 900's. But it sounds to me like the 1000 is bigger than one might think (though it's hard to tell from videos and pictures). I dunno. I'm torn as well haha.

What build of OSX are you guys using for your netbooks? (iatkos, kalyway, the windosx) I'm not sure which netbook is the easiest to do it on, I'm torn between the msi wind, the acer 1000h, and the dell mini 9. I want at least a 10" screen but I'm not amazing with the stuff so I don't want it to be too hard.

I also want to know about how you went about putting OS X on the 1000h. Could you write out the steps you did exactly to get everything working so far? I have vista on the 1000h but I want to test drive OS X on it.

Could you either tell me what you did or provide the links I'll need? Thanks!
