Consider the E71-2; not the spliced down E71x.
Nokia USA has a price drop of $50 - including online purchases. If Windows Live Search still has that deal to purchase from their links to purchases then its possible you can get their cashback of 25-30% extra; IF its still on. Not limited to Nokia phones or phones at all for that matter.

E71-2 eh? cant say ive seen or heard of that anywhere. is that the actual name for it? i am in australia so its harder to get the same deals that are in the US.

If you liked the E65 - consider what the E71 has in the same form factor in the E66.
Same incredible calendar - especially when busy.
Motion-Sensor for landscape viewing.
GPS (A-GPS, or plain GPS with maps loaded and saved to MicroSD or internal memory: Nokia Maps, TomTom, Route66, etc; not Gmaps)
Metal & hard plastic construction and THIN!
WLAN with Enterprise WPA2 support (personal as well).

i do love my E65, i like the calendar and the apps (gmail, msn, internet etc). it is quite slow especially when i get over 1000msgs in the inbox. GPS doesnt bother me, i have a GPS device already.

my friend has an E66, and while it is very stylish, i still found it sluggish and i wasnt 100% intersted.

i am throwing up between two phones, the E63 vs the E71. i love the metal finish of the E71, but apart from the case, GPS and the better camera there isnt much difference between the two really.. i LOVE the QWERTY keyboard, thats the one thing i hate about my phone.. its annoying. any suggestions??

Here is my big dawg since last October :D. Plan on unlocking it in the next few weeks for a big trip to the US. What US carrier works with e71 by the way?

good timing! we were just conversing about that exact phone. how do you like it???

Well this is my first Nokia and my first smartphone with a keyboard. So I had to make some adjustments. But right now, I really like it. I didn't really pay attention to apps until recently, and it paid off: nimbuzz, skype, world mate are just a few of them.
The design is great, but it is true that a first time S60 user has to learn a few tricks before it actually shows true greatness :D...
I actually can't wait for the Nokia App Store coming up these next few weeks...Ovi is a pretty solid service, based on my experience on their website...

E71 is the name of the smartphone.
E71-2 or E71NAM (NAM = North American Model or variant) is what I bought unlocked, Rogers Wireless, and AT&T have. IT supports both the 850/1900Mhz bands.

Of note ... there are 3 main versions of the E71 (E66 follows as well).
* E71-1 is the Euro brand: 900/2100Mhz 3G bands. (no the 2100Mhz is NOT AWS and will not work on T-Mobile USA).
* E71-2: supports both the 850/1900Mhz bands [Rogers Wireless, AT&T both have this as well as the unbranded and unlocked model you buy from Nokia USA NYC/Chicago or 3rd party retailers]
* E71-3: 850/2100mhz or its the 1900/2100Mhz; cannot recall. This is catered to the Australia market as they use both 850/1900mhz but providers are fixed on 1 of the bands.

AT&T's Nokia E71x is the same as teh E71-2 designation; yet its 1 revision higher on the OS and firmware stack. E71x features S60 3rd Edition FP2 - just like the N85/5730/5370 and more recent S60 candybar/slider phones (Samsung i8510 INNOV8 comes to mind). Slight improvements on the OS is lost though due to AT&T's notorious branding.

Well its hard to make a decision on how someone else's phone runs. I have no clue what was running so slow due to 1000 SMS/MMS in the inbox. I'll half guess that that friend of yours installed ALL apps on internal memory and had email also internal and with just about everything else there with no saved memory running.

E63 will be cheaper and has the 3.5mm headset jack. I can use BT A2DP, so it doesn't matter to me. E63 you'll loose the IRda & GPS vs the E71.

Not sure. Where did you buy your E71, or better yet. Power it down, remove the battery and underneath what is your RM model?
Cross reference it with Nokia's Declaration of Conformity site.

My E71-2 is RM-357. Opinioncircle, your E71 may or may not get 3G on AT&T but this carrier is your best bet. IF its 900/2100Mhz then you're stock on EDGE data speeds only, and will have to resort to WLAN - but all apps can use WLAN if you set them to ;) that is the beauty of an OS that began life as a PDA and evolved over 10yrs.

the apps on the nokia are really great, i use msn, gmail, googlemaps, etcetc. they come in very handy.

thanks for the reply

im guessing ill have to get the E71-3 (being in australia), we dont have AT&T here and whatnot, ill buy it outright with no brands on there.

no, this was on my current E65. his E66 seemed to run pretty good, but not as fast as i expected it to run. he hasnt installed any apps, and his msgs are only around 200msgs in the inbox, he doesnt use email.

E63 will be cheaper and has the 3.5mm headset jack. I can use BT A2DP, so it doesn't matter to me. E63 you'll loose the IRda & GPS vs the E71.

if thats all im loosing then its a sacrifice i could make. the camera doesnt bother me, i only take random pictures of important/funny things. the GPS doesnt worry me either as said in my other post. i might end up going for the E63 if it looks solid enough and performs well enough for me :)

My E71 is E71-1 RM-346, I don't really care about 3G honestly. WLAN is everywhere in SF (where I'm going to), from what I've been told. Besides, I took a look at the fees. OMG, this is crazy expensive...Besides, again I've been told that the US 3G network is pretty crappy compared to the EU 3G network...So I'd avoid the drop in quality and the increase in price if I'd not use the 3G in California.

I think Nokia should release a OS update to get the same OS as you guys have with your E71-2.

I'm pretty satisfied with the keyboard. It's a little tough to type on at first, but you'll get used to it really fast. I write emails in no time with that little fella, and I have yet to get to see my doctor about pain in my thumbs :D...

You're going to get one btw?
And you're welcome for the answer :D

ha good to hear, the keyboard got good write ups on a lot of reviews that i read.

yes im thinking of getting either the E63 or E71, trying to justify the $200AUS price difference for the E71, you may have just saved me $200 haha!

Well my iPhone decided not to come out of recovery mode today, so I took it to Vodafone, and they told me I will have it back within 10 days. So I reverted back to my LG Viewty. Afterwards, when I was on my way down to my friends coffee shop, I stopped by a different electronics store, and ended up ordering the HTC HD. Ugh, like I need any more electronic devices.

I'm looking at purchasing a SIM card with a plan actually. I don't know if such things exists in the US. I know they do in Europe though.

They exist, just go to an AT&T store, or a T-Mobile store, and get the SIM only, without the phone.

My current phone is an LG enV2 which I don't particularly like. I'm looking to get an iPhone eventually but unfortunately my contract doesn't end until November, so I might look into a contract swapping service.

After using all my minutes suffering through Virgin Mobile horrible service, I switched to T-Mobile prepaid, and got a decent phone ... VM's are all so feature restricted.

God that phone brings me back to when everyone else had one and I didn't LOL

I've never had one before now, but after having a blackberry for work for a while, I enjoy the simplicity of it being just a phone. I can't stand sliders, and most flip phones are too thick to be comfortable.
