I don't see why 12 year olds need a phone at all. I didn't get my first phone till I was like 16.
Blackberry Pearl is a brilliant phone. There's an iPhone theme out there that was created by a MacRumors member, you may want to give it a try, it's fantastic!

Although I do agree that no one under about 16 needs any kind of smart phone.
hey, i'm 15 and i have the iphone. i am not like most other kids though, i bought everything i have, even my laptop and computer. i pay for my own cell phone service. i have over 20 cell phones that i buy and sell. i am going to pay for my car, gas, and insurance. i payed for my $2100 quad when i got it too. its not like my parents dont care for me, they do, but i am not a spoiled brat like many other teenagers my age.

I totally agree. I'm 16 and like you, I pay for almost all my gadgets. It kind of annoys me when people say, "You don't need one of those." Well guess what, if I want it bad enough and can pay for it myself, why can't I have it?
Just like I will be buying the new Macbook whenever it comes out. Finally getting away from this old Dell PC!
same here.. but since im only 15... i cant work where i want.. (apple store ftw)
but since my parents own their own business.. i work for them.. i hate when people say that working for your parents isnt really working..

Smartphones are great, its like a computer in your pocket, its not really something you need but they are very convenient and very cool! 
For the first time in years, I'm cell phone free!!!
But it won't last. The new ball and chain will be arriving at work soon, and I get stuck with it again.
