2009 Mac Mini (2.0GHz, 4GB RAM, 250GB HD, just arrived yesterday to replace the G5 I had been using). 2x Apple Cinema displays. DVD drive as monitor stands, and an old USB G5 keyboard and Logitech MX 1100 mouse.

iPhone 3GS shot, poor light, poor quality.

Just out of curiosity, did you buy the Cinema Displays with the mini, or did you have them before? I couldn't imagine spending more on the screen(s) then I did on the computer.

We have had them. I was using a crappy 19" Gateway LCD with a Gateway tower (which was good, 2.4GHz Core2Duo, 4GB RAM) until I got fed up and swapped it for the old PowerMac G5 and a single cinema display. Then I searched around the university until I found another cinema display and grabbed it for my desk :)

I do love the setup though. Cinema displays + the Mini are better than having a iMac in my opinion. I realize you can hook another display up to an iMac, but having uniform screens when doing dual displays is a major must for me.

ahh I see :) I agree that the mini + Cinemas is a really beautiful combo, you just never see it.. Probably because of cost.

yup, i think people dont go the mini because of its lack of power.. its a gorguz machine! looks amazing, but the discrete GPU + weak CPU make it a failure for pros'semi-pro's. i would still love one though ;)

I mostly do programming at work, and the 2.0GHz, 4GB RAM combo is just fine. Heck the G5 held up pretty well for its age. If I ever have any compilation that needs to be done, we have workhorse servers. But really, the 2.0 Mini holds up well, and looks good on my desk between the cinema displays.

I have the same mini at home and it runs great for everything I toss at it, well worth the money. But I saved money upgrading the RAM and HD on my personal mini myself. I figured since my employer was buying this one, I would configure it with the extra spec's directly from Apple. It costs more than doing it yourself, sure, but I don't want to crack open and risk voiding the warranty on my work computer.

ahh yea, for programming its pretty much the perfect machine! small, quiet, and tidy (for all the crap on your desk :p). the performance of it is probably better then the old G5 you were using :)

good point, i normaly do upgrades myself - but if your employer is paying....

i would love a Mini for a home theatre machine, rip BR movies onto it etcetc. would be great :)

thanks for sharing!

One side of my home office is pretty much always nice and tidy:

While the other side is currently a disaster:

Pretty obvious where my last efforts at dusting ended:

Meanwhile my work workspace (where I'm editing animation all day) is generally somewhere between complete and minor disaster area.

nothing wrong with that :D what type of animation are you into?
I work in TV animation, but of course I love all kinds of animation, 2D and 3D.

I take it you play drums? Ever post a pic of your drumset? I always wanted to learn how to play an instrument, (nope, I don't play guitar even though I have several) but never progressed beyond just noodling around.

i LOVE playing drums, i just finished practising then :) (got to record for a friend in a week). drumming is such a great stress reliever, and a great challenge.. it doesnt need to be loud either :p

i believe that i have posted a picture once or twice, ill try find it :)

EDIT: here is my kit, not a great picture but u get the idea

Awesome. I wish I had room for a drum kit just to bang around on. (Though I'm sure my closest neighbors -not to mention my wife- are glad I don't!)

get an electric kit! they cost a bit more, and are a different experience to an acoustic kit - but are really quiet!
to be honest my neighbors don't mind.
as long as im not playing at 10 or anything.
ive noticed you only are able to play for like an hour and half so its not like its 5 hours of blast beats.

If you do go electric pay extra for the mesh pads. They make a world of difference.

Im jealous of anyone that gets to use a Mac in their profession. Only a crappy PC running XP SP3, bad quality too, taken on my 3GS. I know, it's not a Mac, whatever, but it's where I have to spend 9 depressing hours every day, plus the title said where I work ;) If you look close enough you'll see my iPhone's charging cable...the only thing related to Apple in the entire photo :p

I see you're about 2 hours north of me here in Corn Country. :) Technically 3, but who's counting?

I dated someone who was finishing her Doctorate in Organic Chemistry, I have a lot of respect for what grad students in the hard stuff have to do.
