Last Sept Euro 1.20 to Dollar 1. Currently Euro 1 to Dollar 1. 20% drop in Euro to dollar. 1260 * 1.2 = 1512. Seems about right.

Did people not see this coming a mile off? The USD is at or near record highs against almost every currency on the continent barring possibly its fellow safe haven Swiss Franc!

I call that BS because when Euro was stronger than dollar the price was the same, if that's the reason it should have been lower. And when the Euro will bounce back up, prices will have to go back down, but that's not gonna happen. Wanna bet?

Of course they won't but that isn't an apple only thing. That's every company even down to local businesses.

I guess Apple overstretched it this time for European customers. We were used to not getting any benefit from a stronger EUR, but as mentioned Apple never reduced prices at favorable exchange rate. Even though I could easily afford it, I am not going to upgrade this year from my 12 Pro and I have the feeling a lot of people will do the same. The last time Apple sales were poor in Germany, there were a lot of discounts at other retailers (up to 20%), I guess we are going to see the same going into the holiday season and into 2023.

And you will just be a bootlicker for these disgusting anti-consumer practices? Time to take a stand, people are having it hard enough already, these prices are basically a slap in the face to very loyal costumers.

1500 usd for a new iphone? Yeah, no thanks apple, it was a 1000 usd just 3-4 years ago.

What's next? A 12% smaller notch, or should I say FUN-ISLAND-MEGA-FLUID-FUTURE-PILL, next year for only 3200 euros?

Yeah, you are very right.

And I think these prices will mark a shift at how people in the EU look at people who have iphones. Most of the EU has androids, and now people with iphones and other apple products can kinda seem stand-offish sometimes, since people in Europe are more price-conscious and we have more socialist policies, but I'm now thinking that I don't even feel that comfortable carrying around a new purple iphone which is basically the same as other phones, but now costs as much as expensive jewelry.

At least the new samsung z fold 4 (disclaimer: i DON'T like samsung at all) has new fun feauters and form factor and people that look at it can justify the price when they see it.

Those SIM trays must be very expensive!

Just kidding, but it is kid of funny how Apple annoyed Europeans with crazy price increases and Americans with missing SIM trays.

On my iPad I could change my Region to Egypt for FaceTime to appear. Isn’t that the case on iPhone?
I believe this is no longer an issue since Apple started selling iPhones with a part number ending in AA/A instead of the usual AE/A. I have a friend who bought an iPhone 13 Pro from the UAE and has FaceTime on his. Just make sure when buying it doesn't end in AE/A. It is the plague. If it ends in AA/A, double check first and don't take my word for it BUT NEVER PAY FOR A AE/A.

How can anybody blame Apple? The Euro is weak against all major currencies.

It definitely wasn't the same. Prices in the EU have VAT included. Prices in the US do not have the tax (VAT equivalent included). Meaning an iPhone 14 Pro Max advertised at 1099 USD would actually cost around $1199 USD. EU have much higher VAT(taxes) in comparison to all United States.

I guess they expected apple to eat the difference.
Yeah, I mean I've been quite critical of Apple not responding to exchange rate increases (for example the ~18 months between late 2020 and mid 2022 when the £ didn't drop below $1.30 and went as high as the low $1.40s, but Apple maintained £/$ pricing parity throughout) but even I can't criticise them for this. These moves are too big for them to swallow viably, even with their generous margins. Unfortunately if this pricing is too much, people are just going to have to go without the shiny new iPhone this year. Not a happy state of affairs but that's where we are for the time being.

In the medium term this does become Apple's problem more and more though, this high ex-US pricing will be a massive headwind for them (and RIP US exports in general if things don't at least stabilise soon!). They may have to reevaluate whether maintaining margins on US sales is worth more to them than the sales hit outside, and try to make lower USD base prices work to bring down globally adjusted prices.

If 1 USD is 1 Euro, then $1099 = 1099 euro.

But the guy says the 128 GB iPhone 14 Pro Max is 1540 Euro. So where is the 450 euro coming from?

Looks like a clear rip-off. You can blame Apple for that.

That guy is just wrong.

Apple is asking €1,212 for a Pro Max. The rest of it is EU taxes. Apple always eats a 10% foreign exchange difference.
