I'm not too sure either, but it's a possibility!

The ASD is a brand new product that comes in 6 different versions so I see why there would be supply constraint at the moment. The Pro XDR is three years old and only has two versions so it should be easy for Apple to keep stock of those. Just as the iMac 24" and the Mac Mini are currently delivered within a couple of days.

The Pro Stand has the same delivery estimate as the Pro Display here. So maybe Apple just happened to have some left in stock where you are, who knows.

When I ordered my first XDR Display around September last year it has a 4 week lead time then, too. I don‘t think this is a product that they keep a huge amount of inventory in the supply chain for. With issues in China at the moment, the JIT manufacturing model hits these products hard.

Or as you say, maybe they’re preparing to refresh it. That is definitely a possibility. I hope they don‘t as I want both my displays to match. ?

I don’t think the delays of either are due to anything but supply chain issues.

But it’s still interesting discussion. To keep this thread from Being derailed into availability updates, let’s start a second thread and link out to that.

Lmk when it is up and I’ll add a link in the OP.

With the talk of a new Pro monitor at WWDC, I'm now very slightly doubting buying x2 of the current XDR's if a newer one is due out soon.
As I'm buying x2, I don't need them bigger than 32", nor do I need webcam/speakers built in or even 7k or whatever it may be but... for resale, I'd rather have a 'new' version when spending a serious amount of cash.

I do need them asap though so am I right in thinking that if I get the current XDRs between 9 May - 16 May as what Apple are saying now on my order, I can request a return on day 13/14 then still have the option on whether I do actually return them within 14 days of the request?

Doing this will buy me a bit of time (28 days) and will hopefully fall just in time for whatever possible new monitor is unveiled on June 6th.

You can also purchase them from Best Buy with delivery for next week and if you get Best Buy TotalTech then you get 60 days returns which will cover you very well until WWDC and more.

I originally bought my XDR after waiting for a prior WWDC that did not deliver what would become the Studio display.

Certainly, if there was simply a new gen of the XDR dropping, and I was ready for number two, I’d wait to this coming wwdc to find out. Not specifically for the resale, but for me. I would want the new shiny one.

As I understand it, the no questions asked return is based on date of delivery. The exception is the holidays where the window stretches to accommodate gift giving.

So this should work just fine. It would be a bunch of hassle to manage the delivery, set up and return if it was updated. But doable.

I have not seen much solid rumor of another monitor update. Can you point at what’s making you think this is a real possibility?

We'd need more praticial customizable features such as switching color mode, color presets or color profile via keyboard for Pro Display XDR and Studio Display.
Does any of you switching reference modes preset via keyboard successfully?

Thank you so much for your help, joevt.
macOS 12.3.1 already support menu switching pull down lists if the "Customize Preset" configuration settle properly.
But I am loooking for a keyboard command(simulate the front control panel on reference monitor) in order to define and switching color preset(or so) on the Pro Display XDR or Build-in Liquid Retina XDR Display.

New update on May 2, 2022 -- Apple advisor called this morning and he would then bring my Product Improvement Request, PIR to relevant team for further discussion after a long dialogue. In the meanwhile, he told me that this request is just on the sweet spot and he would be more than happy to escalate to R&D for further evaluation.

Been going back and forth between buying the new Studio Display and the Pro Display XDR. As delivery times are still around two months for either display, I might as well just wait to see if anything pops up during WWDC. As the Studio Display's camera has also now been confirmed to be a hardware issue, I'm not as keen to get it anymore.

Just 2 points:

1, I like to share with you my experience. I am using the Ergotron TRACE Single Monitor Mount for my Pro Display XDR. This is really nice. Very strong stand, but it needs a strong table to hold it firmly. Note: the stand itself is rather heavy=7kg, and it can hold a monitor up to 9.8 kg. Just perfect for Pro Display XDR.

2, Question, on my Pro XDR the mouse cursor (on a black wall paper) is white at the top corners, but while moving it to the center or down, it becomes less white (grey-ish). I am running Big Sur. Is this a feature?

for the second point, that's normal for black background on the XDR. I have a full black wallpaper and my mouse cursor dims when the cursor is not in the currently active FALD zones

My brand new Pro XDR Display has a giant grey/brown splotch on the display. Awaiting a callback from Apple Support. I’m never very optimistic about getting support over the phone. Always end up not being helped, or the replacement is a refurbished item. But taking a monitor like this into the store seems like such a hassle.. got the exact same problem right now on my XDR Display, exactly 18 Months after i bought it. The same grey/brown splotch on the exact same spot... How did you fixed it? Did Apple replace it?

Mine actually disappeared a few weeks after. I hadn’t had a chance to take it into the store yet, and the day I finally had time to pack it up and take it, I couldn’t find the spot! At least Apple has a record of me reporting it if it comes back, but I haven’t had the problem since.

Well if Apple decides to put a camera & speakers in the new XDR, surely they learned from the cf of the ASD to put a kick butt camera in it. Maybe that's why they put such a crappy cam in the ASD, so the XDR looks significantly better. Hmmm.

I highly doubt we’ll see a webcam in a pro display. It’s not what the product is for and just adds to cost.

Well that sucks :(
My x2 displays should have been delivered this week from May 9th but I now see the date has changed massively to Arrives 29 Jun - 12 Jul.
That seems an unusual delay surely?

Ah that's frustrating... I ordered an XDR on 4/23 and my delivery is somewhere between Jun 10th-24th. Can't quite remember if that date has slipped at all since placing the order. I'm pretty sure my brain saw the estimated delivery and just simplified it down to "at some point in June... probably".

On the upside, the pro stand got here 2 weeks ago :)

Many many pro users now have to work remotely, including zoom/teams meetings/remote edit walkthroughs (myself included) so I think there is a big use case for including a webcam in the XDR in a post pandemic world.

The 4k Logi webcam made specifically for the XDR works really well, even in portrait orientation. See attached my setup with the webcam on the left

Are there any particular drawbacks or dislikes that any of you have with the XDR display? I’m thinking of buying one and am curious if there are areas that you wish it were better. Thanks!!
