Please report back regarding your experiences with the M1 mini + XDR. I feel fairly confident that the mini will be able to drive the XDR without issues, but I haven't seen/read about any first hand user experiences.
I have an M1 Max (MBP) and sorry to report I'm having issues with the XDR Pro Display.

I have a USB keyboard plugged into the XDR (via an official Apple USB-C -> USBA adapter), and after periods of inactivity (i.e. when I'm reading something vs typing), the keyboard just stops working. Re-attaching the keyboard to the display doesn't fix it, neither does attaching another USB keyboard (I've tried several keyboards to rule this part out!). Only way to correct it is to re-attach the screen to the laptop (i.e. in a sense resetting the state between the two).

I've opened a case with Apple support, so will see how it goes.

Up until recently I was using a 16" Intel MBP (2019) which does not show this behaviour, so I suspect it's something to do with the way the Apple Silicon driver is interfacing with the display.

A side note: whilst jumping through hoops with Apple support, I also noticed that the M1 will beachball when I click the "Display" tab in "About This Mac" before eventually opening when the display is connected, and the "Displays" panel in System Preferences does the same.

After my disappointment on Studio Displays, I'm planning to get a Pro Display XDR.
Should I wait for a possible refresh? or should I just purchase it now?

I'm an owner of a Pro Display XDR and contemplating adding another one. Does anyone here have experience running two XDRs side by side? How do you find it? I'm wondering it's just too much screen real estate and I'll regret the (considerable) investment and may not be as usable as I expect.

Nearly certain you won't regret it if you're already thinking about it. A single display is not nearly enough desktop real estate ... Pro Display XDR or otherwise.

Hi guys, can you use a Pro Display XDR and for example a Dell display on the same Mac Studio, or can you use only the Pro Display XDR? :)
Sure, you can use any combo of monitors (up to the supported number). Heck you could probably use an old 720p in addition to the XDR!

Cool! To be honest, I am eyeing on a Pro Display XDR. I probably will be able to afford it in a few months, without selling my family.
I bought one (it was a $$ stretch), but I have zero regrets after a year. Still big, beautiful and oh so color accurate. And I’m not even a “professional” user like a editor or similar.

I have two XDR Displays at my office and just received a glossy Studio Display for my home office.. and boy is it a disappointment..
It's like the little ugly, fat-bezelt sister of the XDR. The screen feels just so small, no reference modes, (of course) no black blacks and what on earth is going on with this subpar webcam??
When before I was wondering why the stand on this display was so cheap compared to the XDR... well, once you try to adjust the display you realize why, because it has absolutely nothing to do with the perfectly buttery smooth movements that the XDR can perform but just feels clunky and stuck somewhat.

The only good thing that I can say about it is that the design looks neat, it has a USB 3 hub built in and the sound is pretty decent!
I'll keep it for the industrial design, as it looks pretty in my living room, but just wish I had gotten the nano version, but now with a 10 week delivery window I don't wanna return it :(

How do you find using the two XDRs at work? Does it work well ergonomically with two 32" displays? Are they side by side, flat, or angled towards you?

It works pretty well to be honest. At first it took a bit getting used, but after a few hours, every other setup feels cramped and too small :D I have them angled towards me.

I noticed when the Mac attached to the ASD is on or sleeping you can use the USB-C ports on the monitor to charge an iPhone /iPad.
However when the Mac is off, the Display cuts completely the power to the USB-C ports.

I find a kind of strange that is power on these ports only when the attached Mac is on. The display has its own power.

Is your ASD behaving the same, or there is a setting somewhere to change this?

You might want to ask that question in an ASD thread. This is a thread abot the XDR Pro Display.

Any recommendation for the monitor distance from eyes?
It will look bigger if you move your face right up to it...
But not too close that you can't recognize the left and right edges of the display.
Not too close that you need to swivel your head or eyeballs more than 45° to point at the left or right edges of the display.
Or maybe you might prefer 30°. Find specs for the width of the display and do some trigonometry.

I spent about two hours this afternoon on the phone with Apple engineering trying to solve the the display buzz. I narrowed it down to electrical noise back feeding to my house from my AC compressor outside. The studio display has inadequate noise filtering in the power supply, allowing the high-frequency signal from the AC compressor to get through to the display circuitry. This high frequency noise somehow interferes with the PWM signal for the display fans, creating an audible beat frequency when the AC is on. Apple was very interested in testing almost every permutation of computer, wall socket, UPS, etc - none of them worked. I even recorded the sound and sent it off to Apple for them to diagnose. Apple was not confident a replacement display would solve the noise crosstalk issue so unfortunately I need to return the studio display :(
But this is a Pro Display XDR topic. The 32”, 4999 USD kind of Studio Display. :D
