Pwnage does not recognize .ipsw file

I see several people asked this question. But I can't find any answer anywhere.

I used Pwnage to unlock/jailbreak 1.1.4 successfully, created custom .pswd, etc. But when it comes to 1.2, Pwnage doesn't recognize 1.2 .ipsw files.

The following is 'Browse .ipsw' output of 1.1.4:

2008-06-12 17:09:41 - Loaded .ipsw file from '/Users/stan/Desktop/iPhone1,1_1.1.4_4A102_Restore.ipsw'
2008-06-12 17:09:43 - Recognized .ipsw file as version iPhone1,1_1.4_4A102

These are are the latest (beta 6 and 7) versions of 1.2:

2008-06-12 17:19:29 - Loaded .ipsw file from '/Users/stan/Desktop/iPhone1,1_2.0.5A308_Restore.ipsw'
2008-06-12 17:19:31 - Can't recognize version of .ipsw file.

2008-06-12 17:22:51 - Loaded .ipsw file from '/Users/stan/Desktop/iPhone1,1_2.0.5A331_Restore.ipsw'
2008-06-12 17:22:57 - Can't recognize version of .ipsw file.

Can anyone who went thru the experience please shed a little light?
Thank you..

Setting up as new does NOT put any of your data back but restoring from back up does.

The 2.0 Beta versions 4,5 and 6 (etc as I think there is a version 7 now as well) do NOT work with pwnage.

Apple changed the encryption and image file types so that people could not "hack" those beta firmwares.

The reality is that the changes Apple made were easily fixed by the iPhone DevTeam and they are simply waiting for the final release of 2.0 to avoid having to mess around with Apple trying to stop them.

If they released the update now then who knows what Apple would do for the final 2.0 but by waiting it means that they can easily jailbreak/unlock the final version.

I am getting an iphone from a buddy who wants to buy a 3g. Does syncing (mail, ical, etc.) still work with itunes after jailbreaking it?

Wow, I feel so stupid... :\ I read that and I'm still confused. Maybe I should jsut not bother unlocking it. I want to sell it, but I don't want to mess it up or anything.

les sigh

It can seem quite daunting at first but it is really not that difficult.

Remember an unlocked iPhone is worth more than a locked one, and if by some chance you did mess up, you can always go back to the beginning by restoring it, and then try again.

In your position I would perservere. :)

Am I correct in assuming that this might not really be what I want if I just want to unlock my phone [that's it!] to make it worht more?

Thanks so much. I think even I can do this. I guess I should restore and erase all of my info before I do it also, since I will be selling the phone.

Apparently I suck even wit ha baby step walk-trough. Man, I'm annoying.

It says something about not having all the needed files when bootneuter loads. I have no service. No edge, no signal no...anything. I followed everythign exactly as it said. Arg.

I don't know if it matters, but I have ATT. I just want to unlock it to sell it.

Yes, that's what I was using before. I just hadn't realized I that I didn't have the newest version of WinPwn. Everything is fine now and it's already listed on eBay.

Thanks a lot to everyone for being helpful.

I'm trying to unlock without a sim and I made the custom firmware, but when I open itunes it won't display the iphone because there is no sim. how do i restore it with the custom firmware? Thanks in advance.

You might have the phone in DFU mode. Use iLiberty or another program to put the phone into recovery mode. Sim or no sim if it is in recovery mode and you connect to the computer iTunes will recognize it.

If you connect it to iTunes without a sim and not in recovery mode iTunes will tell you to enter a sim card.

So something is a foot! I had problem with DFU mode too until I realized it was in DFU mode.

sorry if this already been asked but it is driving me nuts, when ever i download the 1.1.4 restore it saves on my mac as a folder full of dmg files not an ispw. any idead how to sole this?/

cheers

Could it be that your browser is set to automatically open downloaded files.

Try checking and altering this setting as appropriate, or try a different browser.

Good luck. :)

hahah safari was on auto open, checking again. cheers

Aaargh. Nope. Downloading fire fox to see if that makes a difference

fire fox saved the day, my phone is now pwned, it is a brilliant programme, been playing with betas etc. cant wait for the new software, gonna drve me nuts waiting, haha

My god... I'm stunned that this appears so vastly complicated. Mine is Ziphoned and it took what? 30 seconds? I just assumed this was a simpler/prettier way to do it via iTunes, etc. I figured I'd try it to practice for the 3g phone but I can't see why I would want to go through all this trouble.
"torrent the file"? wow What am I missing here?

Edit: Nevermind, I just watched the video and it does in fact appear I have to do both the iPwner *AND* IPSW Builder operations.

Hi

If I upgrade from 1.1.4 to 2.0 can I restore back to 1.1.4 then the use the pwnage tool to unlock my phone or does 2.0 prevent this?

Thanks

Am confused.

Original iPhone, followed instructions in first post just fine. Got as far as final reboot, no problems. Set up as new iPhone in iTunes, rebooted. Now cannot register with cellular network, with any sim card at all, top left signal sign just looks like _ _ _ _

EDIT: Am getting Error 5 when bootneuter runs.

EDIT again: OK, after many hours struggling, I am no further. "Error 5" seems to be due to upgrading to 2.0 from Apple and then trying to downgrade and unlock. All the solutions for this combination of problems take me around in circles - to make BootNeuter work I need to downgrade from 2.0 to 1.1.4, but to complete the downgrade I need BootNeuter to work.....

Aaaaaargh!

?????
