Could somebody confirm me the procedure:
Bootloader - ok, I have 1.1.4 - not sure about the 3.9 or 4.6
Then in iTunes 7.7 go for update to 2.0
thereafter using the DEV tool to unlock and jailbreak

Right?
Thx for any constructive comment

No, you first have to run Pwnage 2.0,
then it asks you for two .bin files, which you can find on page one of this thread*.
Then it writes a custom firmware to the Desktop.
The next step is to go into DFU (explained in Pwnage) and Option click on restore in iTunes to select the custom FW.

*If it asks for the bootloader select "no", then "yes" repeat when it asks you for the next bootloader. And if your iPhone has to be unlocked select "no" when it asks you if your iPhone is legit.

It's good that I have so much time for this because the first Sync is taking ages ;)

Success. And a big thank you to the Dev Team

Ok so I downloaded Pwnage 2.0 and I can confirm that it has been successfully applied to an Irish o2 1st Gen 16GB iPhone.
Everything appears to be working currently ie. Youtube, Internet, Stocks, Weather, Maps(with functioning Locate me option).

Great job from the Dev Team!!

For those of you who have a bouncing dock icon and nothing else, reboot and it should open ok.

That said, what's really the point of jailbreaking TODAY? There's no Installer, no SSH, and most if not all apps previously working on 1.1.4 and lower are now incompatible with 2.0. They all need to be recoded. This is what I've read anyway...

K, I've rebooted twice and downloaded the prog 3 sep times from 3 different servers. I'm still getting it bouncing and then stopping. I'm running the latest version of leopard. Any ideas? This is killing me.

You can't unlock with this version, just jailbreak and activate. Cydia is another package manager like Installer.app but it is more advanced and it is open source.

The firmware files are in /Users/you/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates/sdgsdgs.ipsw

To download the most recent one, plug your iPhone in and hit "restore" and unplug your iPhone. It will download to that location. Pwnage Tool will automatically find the firmware file for you once you do that.

i went to this link:
http://www.thinktechno.com/2008/07/10/iphone-20-firmware-download-link-gets-exposed-already/

and clicked at the bottom where is says "DOWNLOAD LINK"
http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite...080710.bgt53/iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw

will this work?

Thank you very much!!! Very kind of you - I give a try:)

there is ssh.. its under openssh in cydia.. i got it working.. just need to redo the host key for it in my computer and it would run fine i think

EDIT: got open shh working fine using cyberduck

this is why i like ZiPhone... this Pwnage sounds too complicated!!!

not really.. i didnt like the old version of pwnage because it was complicated.. but this new version is pretty easy... it guides you right through the whole process and went without a hitch for me

I totally agree. I'd say it's perfect if they hadn't bragged so much about how they are really focussing on making it as easy as it can be. Let's just say I see further potential regarding usability enhancements :D

I wonder how many people are going to brick their phone because they don't know what they're doing and this jailbreak is not for the faint of heart..

Seriously... if you're asking if it's safe, you need to wait a week. If you're asking for a dummies' guide, you need to wait about 2-3 weeks. Now is not the time for you to play.

Pwnage tool for me says Failed to enter DFU mode, with this in the log:

2008-07-19 20:18:41 - Failed to prepare x12220000_4_Recovery.ipsw file.

My phone is sitting in DFU mode, so I am totally confused.

It always says: Wrong Firmware bundle selected...
I have the iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw

Did you download it via iTunes? (last time I synced it asked me wether to download or install it). I clicked on "just download" and it ended up in ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates and Pwnage found it instantly.

I don't know why so many people have this problem. If in doubt I'd download it via iTunes.

I'm getting the same thing. I put it into restore manually and it still didn't recognize it.

After the ipsw is built and the you get the yes no diolouge press yes instead of no

EDIT: Actually dont do that. I have no clue what would happen I was about to try it myself but I am not so daring.
