I guess it's a timing issue. Ignore that iTunes is switching to focus and hold down power and home for ten seconds. After you release power make sure you are still holding the home button for another 10 seconds. You know it works if Pwnage switches back to the foreground.

And if you really want to do this with Pwnage's own timer you can close iTunes and kill "iTunes Helper" (use the app Activity Monitor to do so - if you don't use OSX in English you might have to search for it). That way iTunes doesn't start when you plug in the iPhone. But after Pwnage has build the custom firmware you'll have to start it manually.

I've got my custom restore file made, waiting for me on my desktop, but I cannot get the phone into DFU Mode. If the "connect to iTunes" logo is on, i get an error (6), if the screen is blank, i get an error 1600

Can anyone get the proxy hack for T-mobile Edge to work?? I cannot find it thus far, Googled to try to see if anyone else has, but without any luck. So any T-mobile users out there?

+1

I have held off the upgrade until I can see that T-Zones works.

this may be a really dumb question but when it asks if im a legit iphone 3g user what exactly does that mean?

do i really have an iphone 3g? lol

OK, I am in business. I had a website telling me incorrectly how to get into DFU mode. However, Pwnage Tool apparently wants to 'help' you into DFU mode. I started from a regular phone point and let it walk me through DFU mode, and now I am flashing my baseband.

What version of iTunes are you using? Tried a reboot? Changed cables? Changed USB ports?

not really.. i didnt like the old version of pwnage because it was complicated.. but this new version is pretty easy... it guides you right through the whole process and went without a hitch for me

i only get to the part that it asks for the Firmware and i don't know where to look for it or how to download it...

anyone, PLEASE HELP!!!

i went to this link:
http://www.thinktechno.com/2008/07/1...posed-already/

Thank you very much - I passed this hurdle - and continue! Super lieb von Dir! Gute Nacht und bis bald

Has anyone else experienced PwnageTool telling them that it couldn't enter DFU mode? I'm trying it on my iPod touch using the simple mode. I have manually put the iPod touch into DFU mode and iTunes is not open.

Any thoughts?

It told me that. I gave up and restarted it all and then got to work on the second go around.

Where do I have to put the .ipsw to do it in Simple Mode? There are too many options on Expert Mode that I don't understand how to use it.

done

after i made the custom firmware can i just go to itunes and hold option and select my custom 2.0 firmware and restore it with that because i keep getting not in DFU mode when i use the dev team tool

Does any one know what value should be set for the root partition size in the General section (I'm looking at the Expert mode, not that I am an expert :p)? What's the downside of changing the default value?
Thanks.

I just hit, that I already had pwnage installed prior. I think, returning clients will get into the DFU mode only.. Then it worked:)

It used to be 300 MB. I think they increased it because there were commonly disk space issues. Do what you want, but I wouldn't go below 300 MB and you shouldn't need more than 500 MB.

I had a pwned iPhone. I restored to 2.0 to start fresh. I DFU'd it just fine. People aren't following the steps as closely as they need to.

Thanks, I'll go with your advice.
But, what is this root partition file system used for? I suppose all the system goes into the root partition. Do applications get installed there too or in the user space?

ok

ok so restore my iphone which will upgrade 2.0 and it well lock again and then run pwnage tool and everything will work fine, thanks

It's used for the iPhone system files and apps you install through Cydia. iTunes applications might be stored in the user space...not entirely sure.
