I'm still running 1.1.3, and am trying to go to 2.0. Pwnage says it can't enter DFU mode. I unlocked/jailbroke 1.1.2 and 1.1.3 using jailbreakme.com. do I need to restore etc...?

Thank you.

It's used for the iPhone system files and apps you install through Cydia. iTunes applications might be stored in the user space...not entirely sure.

Warbrain, thanks a lot for your lights on that!
One last question, please:
I have a 1.1.4 ziphoned 1st gen iPhone. Do I need to restore from iTunes before I update to 2.0 using the pwned image?

I'm also getting stuck in DFU mode (or not actually). Even when I manually put it there, pwnage still isn't happy. I'm currently restoring the phone to base 2.0 and I'll try again (probably not necessary, but whatever).

PS. the dev blog has just added a quick fix. Apparently create the Device support folder in the right spot, or delete whats in there already might help. Once my restore finishes I'll re-try with that.

Well, one of those helped, it is now walking through dfu mode, rather than immediate fail

**** bricked my iphone....

THE ZIPHONE WAS SO MUCH BETTER!!!

going to contact apple and hopefully have them lock out the hack so no one can hurt themselves.

Hmmm...

All seemed to go well on my 3G 16 GB but then I couldn't connect to O2. It kept showing the "No Service" icon.

I'm restoring back to jail and will wait awhile.

bricked?
there hav ebeen many successful jailbreaks so far.
btw, i highly doubt Apple are going to listen to one person.
:p

but im sure Apple will listen to you, after all, its not like you illegally hacked your phone or anything

iTunes is telling me to not beeing able to restore my iphone with the custom made ipsw - Error 1600

I recall Error 1600 being something like there is something wrong with the cable. Try plugging into a different USB port (seriously!)

From dev-team's blog:
pdate 3: If you get Error 1600 from iTunes, try: mkdir “~/Library/iTunes/Device Support” ; if that directory already exists, remove any files in it. Then re-run PwnageTool.

is there a way can we switch window to mac inorder to try pwnage?

i thought there was a way that we can convert window to mac format.... if there is, where can i find it.. i just want to try the pwnage :D

You will need to. Ziphone udpates things in the iPhone software that it really shouldn't that prevent it from being compatible with new software. Restore to 1.1.4, upgrade to 2.0, pwn it from there. Make sure to choose that the option that the iPhone has NOT been pwned before.

i opened the pwnage tool and ran the simple route.
it created the custom firmware, i'm assuming with cydia, bootneuter and everything. i clicked that "i'm a legit iphone user"
does this mean it doesn't unlock the phone, or even need to run bootneuter?
second- is it okay to just install the custom firmware through itunes doing option+restore like i installed 2.0?

thanks

p.s. will installer 4.0 be available through cydia?

How do you restore to the custom firmware created??? iTunes doesn't give me the option.... thanks

Edit: found the answer on the post above!! hold option key and press restore!

Hmmm...relatively new to the party?

Ziphone is no where near better. Ziphone modifies the OS in ways it shouldn't be. You can't upgrade a ziPhone in any way possible. And it has a better ability to brick!

SOCKS relay is the program to install to tether.

It works on 3G! :D:D:D

SSH in, start srelay, setup your computer to use a SOCKS proxy on your iPhone's IP address, etc.

Basically just use this tutorial:

Warbrain, thanks a lot for your help, I'll try just that.
