TheStrudel,

No, not recently. I had tried a bunch of different ones, under 10.5, to try to get any ports to work, without success.

Are there any ones that you would say work better than others? I had tried Natit, I remember. Hard to say about the others.

Thanks!

Sorry I missed your reply earlier. I was going to suggest that I think Netkas has updated the main injector since then (I guess it's no longer called Natit, either?) for Snow Leopard and you might have more luck just because Snow Leopard appears to be playing better with non XFX 4870s anyway. Try Netkas website or asking him for the latest version, I guess?

Alternatively, I think he may have posted newer versions in either the 4890 or GTX 285 thread.

I've searched all over, and can't find any reports of anyone trying the HD-487A-ZWFL version. This one seems to be cheapest in the UK (that claims to support HDCP...) at the moment (£114 from scan).

Anyone tried one yet?

Jim

I'm so close to buying this - I could swear I found it on the XFX site a few weeks ago. I'm torn between this through Scan or a cheaper version (without HDCP) on eBuyer. Is HD-487A- ZWFL now discontinued?

I think I'm gonna try get this going next week.

I bought this card one week ago and tried all effort for using it in Mac Pro, `2009 early.
(The 'K' of 'ZWFK' means 'Korean edition' I think)

1) Method, 'Jacobcroft' --> Failed
When using this card for primary booting one, you can see red alerts on black screen(boot camp) or broken screen(OSX).
When using this card for 2nd with primary GT120, you can see the message 'power cable connect error'(After the OSX login)

this method is for the ZDFC and ZHFC versions only.

2) Jacobcroft method + other ROMs (from this thread) --> Failed
I tested 3 kinds of ROM files from this thread, but failed in all of them with various errors.

3) Method, 'Pipomolo' --> Failed
After the EFI adding process, the graphic card worked as original one(PC).

4) with ATI BOOT Editor,
Error message shown when a ROM file opened, 'Can't read clock informations'

I think this card is 'not' reference against XFX's previous one is.

Is there 'brave and smart' one who challange this quest?

Hi,
I got an MSI R4870-MD1G and tried the pipomolo method and the netkas method but I always finish with a mac pro (1,1) that does not boot.
I got the chime but just after no disk activity.

I can reflash to origin via a pc and the card works fine in the pc.
Does someone already tested and was successful with that card?

The Party is Over?

Just checked, and as I had predicted, Newegg is now only selling the "new improved" 4870 1 Gig, the ZWFC that hasn't flashed well. With the Circus Clown fan system.

The ones that flashed beautifully are gone..likely for ever.

Same story at CompUSA and Tiger Direct.

So, the time to find one at a smaller retailer is NOW.

On the plus side, it looks like the Sapphires are flashing well for Snow Leopard. I'll report my dual-monitor/analog usability once I upgrade.

Sadly (for us at least, the PC industry is giddy) the cards are slowly being pulled because the ATI 5800 series is supposedly due in 2 weeks...

I've just done a search in this thread for ZWFL - do we know if there's been any success on the 487A-ZWFL XFX cards here? I'm looking at the 1GB 4870:

That card does not work, i tried a few weeks ago and successfully bricked it by flashing it with mac 4870 rom (dont ask) and now it wont boot in the mac and isnt recognised in a pc.

I have tried looking all over the web but cant find those reference 4870 cards anymore. Im thinking of getting a sapphire on ebay (at least with photos of the item i can see if its a reference board)

The one i tried was a ZDFL

Successful Flash XFX 4870 487A-ZHFC on Mac Pro 1,1 with ATI 2600 running 10.6.1

I used this guide
with some modifications.

My setup is a Mac Pro 1,1 with an ATI Radeon 2600 and Snow Leopard 10.6.1 (no need to install drivers for the 4870)
I bought the following card to flash:
XFX Radeon HD 4870 750M 1GB DDR5 DUAL DVI TV PCI-E
Model #: HD-487A-ZH
Part #: HD-487A-ZHFC Ver A.5
This card is no longer available at NewEgg but you can get it here at Amazon

Because the ATI 2600 has a power plug and the 4870 has 2 power plugs and the Mac Pro only has 2 power outputs, I was not able to install both cards and the same time. No problem simply set your Mac Pro to boot into Windows by default using the Startup disk in System Preferences. I am using Windows 7. So, boot into Windows and shut down. Take out the old card and put the new one in.

The Mac Pro booted to windows with no problems and it automatically installed generic drivers for the card and rebooted. I then followed the 4870 flash guide with a few changes. I was unable to burn a disk with the trial version of Magic ISO, so I saved the Ultimate Boot CD ISO to my desktop and download the free CDBurnerXp to burn the ISO.

I then used the Apple Startup Disk Manager in windows to boot to the Ultimate Boot CD ISO by default. I followed the instructions and flashed the card with no issues. I then restarted the computer and selected Option after the chime and booted into OS X. It worked like a charm. I am able to run my 30" and 24" Cinema Displays.

Xfx Hd4870 Please Help

I flashed the XFX|HD-487A-ZHDC HD4870 1G and have a couple of problems.

I have a first generation Mac Pro and when I put the card in the first PCI-Express slot I cannot get any video to display on my monitor, however if I put the card in the second PCI-Express slot the display works but only @ X1. I would appreciate any suggestions or help.

Since when did the Radeon HD 2600 XT come with a 6-pin powerplug? Never is the correct answer ;)

Success with Sapphire 4870 512MB

I would like to thank you all who made possible for me to flash a Sapphire card.

Everything worked like a charm with my MacPro 1,1.

Thank you again.

Hey

I am about to purchase a sapphire card. Care to enlighten on what card you got? I am looking at the 512mb model with the reference design (says AMD on the board and has the fan towards the rear of the card).

Thanks

XFX 487A ZWFL 1GB - mixed success

I bought the 4870 found on Scan (Scan UK Store) and found that OS X seems to think the power cables aren't properly plugged in (but it reports a 4870 with 1GB in System Profiler) and Windows refuses to boot, with roughly the same thing but in black & red text.

I used rhildinger's ROM - would anyone mind providing some support? I have the original ROM backed up in 3 different locations :)

Thanks,

F

I'm in exactly the same boat, although I flashed mine back to it's factory state since rhldinger's ROM didn't work for me (same message about power cables).

It would be awesome to make this card work in OSX and windows.

By the sounds of things - we bought cards after the manufacturer carried out a cost-cutting exercise - cheap nasty fan with cheap nasty heatsink.

Anyway. I'm going to create a ROM based on a few of the notes on here. I won't get a chance to do this until maybe Sunday morning. If I succeed, I'll post the .ROM online for people if they buy the ZWFL card.

That new method of flashing the cards will help a lot!
