Vapor-X HD 4870?

Hi,

I've posted this elsewhere, but as this is the main 4870 thread, here goes. I'm looking at the Vapor-X HD 4870 1GB.

1) Fit of the Vapor-X HD 4870 in slot 1 of the Mac Pro. I have heard issues concerning some of the Sapphire cards due to the extremely limited clearance below the card slot on the Mac Pro.

2) Functionality of the HDMI port. Assuming no sound, but does it work otherwise? HDCP support maybe?

I've found report of success with the 2 GB version, but no further detail and nothing regarding the 1GB version.

Thanks,
Mark

Same trouble on a Mac Pro 3.1 Snow Leopard

Hi
Did you find an answer to this trouble ?
I just have the same one with the same Card .
Once I inject Natit and pull off the original HD2600XT to flash it, I get a black screen ...no display.
I connected by fire wire the MAc Pro and a Mac Mini and pressing T at start up the Mac Pro's HD appeared on the Mac Mini desktop, deleting the Intik extenssion in the extenssions folder The Mac Pro started again but only with the HD 2600 XT

Wish I could hear the reason why the famous flashing process just does not work

yes... i think so but still in test
the answer i found is in this page https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/811768/
see GMink post with pc4870.rom attached.
as on your card package you have SKU# is 11133-04-20R
try to reflash with this rom
hope it helps
but we don't have the same configuration i have nvidia card not xt2600

Hi,
I've had similar troubles last weekend getting my Sapphire hd4870 1gb to work under 10.6.2. My card looks exactly the same and the modified bios for SKU 11133-16-20R didn't work correctly. The screen was all corrupted.

So I've made my own bios as described in this great thread and it has been working beautifully :) Unfortunately I'm away from home but will return on the weekend... If I remember correctly the two middle digits in my SKU were different, so we might have the same card!

I'll post my bios as soon as I have access to the file...

New Older Guy here......;)

Crapola, 2262 post!? I read much of it...
Did not see the answer I'm looking for; Most likely went over it blablabla. :D

Ok, here is the thing, I got a MSI R4555 1G. I have a copy of the ROM that I want to mod. I am willing to try my hand at it but have not a clue as to what to look for or do on it.

Is there a step by step guide on how to do this!?

Thanks guys... Great forum you/we have here.

try looking at 1st post

Thanks....

But If I'm correct - and probly not - the link I think you are refering me to "Pipomolo42's ROM writing instructions" already as a MAC ROM to work with right!?

Regardless of that fact that I don't have a MAC ROM, if the instruction given by Pipomolo42 is all I need to mod my card, I'm screwed!!!!!!! :D

Modified Rom for Sapphire 4870 1GB SKU 11133-04-20R

Ok, here it is, my modified ROM for Sapphire HD4870 1GB
SKU: 11133-04-20R

Both DVI ports seem to work, even though I only did minimal testing with a 24" LCD and a full HD TV (DVI - HDMI connector). I noticed some short 'black outs' on the TV while using XBMC but after changing DVI ports it looked fine...

Thanks goes to The Rominator, pipomolo42, netkas and everyone else who made it possible by sharing their knowledge!

Did anyone have any luck with the Asus 1GB 4870? I'm sure I remember someone who got it fully working - searching this thread doesn't reveal that though. I'm after a working ROM for it :D

Is the screen plugged on DVI-1 (the one on the right)? Is your card dual-DVI? Is another screen connected? More info would be useful.

I have no problem with my flashed sapphire with my 21" LDC connected to DVI-1.

3 Flashed 4870 & 10.6.3 Info

Hi,

With all of the craziness in the 4890 camp with latest 10.6.3 update and it's use of older frame buffer, I wanted to see who has noted changes with 4870 cards.

I had three here to play with.

All three act exactly the same in 10.6.2 and 10.6.3.

1. Early Reference 4870/512 meg. Dual DVI has worked same since 10.5.7. No new issues.

2. Powercolor 4870 1Gig card. This is from 2nd generation of these cards, fan in middle, 3 wire fan. These cards are the ones people reported issues with Dual DVI in Leopard. I have only tried it in 10.6.2 and 10.6.3. In both OSes, no trouble with 30" and 24". Something 4890 can't do in a usable way.

3. Gigabyte 4870 1 Gig with HDMI, DIsplayPort and DVI. I was actually hopeful that this card would GAIN functionality. In 10.6.2 this card only has digital output via HDMI. This is unchanged in 10.6.3. I am going to test again with VGA...never tried actually before.

In any case, all 3 4870s here show no difference in 10.6.3 from 10.6.2. If anyone else has a 4870 and has noticed changes with 10.6.3, please post them. Also be nice to hear from folks who have also noted NO CHANGE with 10.6.3.

I continue to maintain that the best bet for most users is a 1 Gig DUal DVI 4870. The 4890s are nifty, but much more bother.

Hey The Rominator, I'm just wondering if you'd be able to post some specific details on how the wires match up.

I'm making the cables from scratch (not because I'm trying to save a dollar - just because it's easier for me to get the raw parts) so I'd really like to be 100% certain how the wires line up. Like, does B1 on the big plug = L1 on the little plug, if (when looking at both plugs "front on"):

big plug (B*)
(1)(2)(3)
(4)(5)(6)

little plug (L*)
(1)(2)(3)
(4)(5)(6)

or is it flipped, so that B1 = L3 or something?

Sorry if my description is vague, I'm not sure how else to ask this.

Thanks
