uh oh

I just did a mac update that broke my video for OSX, I only get a black screen. Windows boots up fine. I'm presuming it's the 10.6.3 update, I don't remember what else was in there. Not happy! I have a Vapor-X HD4870 1G, Sapphire brand I believe. My monitor is a 30" dual-dvi required, not sure if that has anything to do with it. I haven't tried fixing it much but I thought I would send warning for others who are thinking of updating to 10.6.3, beware.

Need help, please!

Can anywone help me with a Mac ROM for my Sapphire 11133-19-20R with 1GB RAM.

The original PC Rom is attached. Sorry for my bad english ... :)

Link to PC - ROM

EDIT: I found a ROM for 11133-19-20R / 1GB in this thread but i have errors in Windows? (Urban Terror)

Hey The Rominator, I'm just wondering if you'd be able to post some specific details on how the wires match up.

I'm making the cables from scratch (not because I'm trying to save a dollar - just because it's easier for me to get the raw parts) so I'd really like to be 100% certain how the wires line up. Like, does B1 on the big plug = L1 on the little plug, if (when looking at both plugs "front on"):

big plug (B*)
(1)(2)(3)
(4)(5)(6)

little plug (L*)
(1)(2)(3)
(4)(5)(6)

or is it flipped, so that B1 = L3 or something?

Sorry if my description is vague, I'm not sure how else to ask this.

Thanks

there is no 4970 card.

That was a typo I corrected, I do have the 4870 that is no longer working after upgrading to 10.6.3. I tried booting in safe mode which didn't make a difference. I'm not sure what to try at this point, I've gone back to my stock NVIDIA GeForce 7300GT :(

I have 4870 2Gb in macpro 1.1 but now I cant use with the new update 10.6.3...Im really angry with (mac).. I need opinion please.
Im thinking to buy a new card but...Ati radeon SAPPHIRE VGA ATI PCIE HD4870 1GB DDR5 work good? or is more good Zotac GTX285 ?
Thanks

4870 Buying advice

This just proves again what I have been pointing out. If you want to have the most trouble free flashing experience, you need an early Reference style 4870 card. (ie...it looks like Mac card...including same fan)

Later 4870s (most likely same ones with "power Cable" warning, Oddball 4870s (Vapor-X, HDMI ports, etc) and 4890s require much more ongoing tinkering to keep working. The early 4870 cards have been flash & forget.

So if you are looking for one of these cards to soup up your Mac and you have choice of several cards...GET AN EARLY 4870 512 Meg or 1 Gig(or even the Real McCoy Mac 4870)....You'll note many of those early 4870 posters are gone, never heard from again. Instead of endless fiddling with their high-maintenance cards they are doing the things they bought their machine for.

The later cards are a touch faster, but chances of anyone being able to tell difference in day-to-day operation is ZILCHO.

It would be AWESOME if someone created database of cards, pics, original and Mac ROMs. Would be invaluuable aid for all in future. Any lurkers out there want to make big points?

xfx4870 zhfc 1gb

no dual dvi outputs after 10.6.3 update.

fixed using Cindori's method.

Ps where can i get 10.6.3 kexts again? (incase i decide to go single monitor later)

xfx4870 zhfc 1gb does work with dual DVI.

I reflashed with cindori's rom and all is well.

Hello,

can anybody help me, please?

I have two Sapphire ATI 4870 1GB with the Numer 11133-19-20R
PN 288-1E131-000SA.

I have flashed the cards with the ROM "Sapphiere New Editon" form Cindori "small Rom-Pack" and with 11133-19-20R Rom from this thread (circa Site 83).

The Error is olways the same. In OS X no problems (only the powercable warnig). But in Windows Games (Urban Terror, Far Cry, W ET,...) i have fractals verry havy. I think in opengl.

I have flashed the cards with the bootcd method, with zeus i can not start the macpro after flash and i must flash back the cards with a PC.

How can i flash the cards?

Greetings von Leitn

Hi this is for "The Rominator":

Hi Rominator:

I totally agree with what you said about the "flash it and forget it" attitude and I also found a detailed post that you put together about how to go through the very detailed process of flashing a 4870 from a Sapphire #100259/1GL card from a year ago. If I was able to find one would that be the best way to go for my Intel Xeon Dual 3.0 Intel Mac Pro (ver. 1,1 - Dec. 2006) to use this card in place of my failing X1900 ATI card? If I bought a XFX HD487AZWFC instead, couldn't I just download the ROM file that has the files already for the ZWFC and replace them and follow the rest of what I have to do to flash it for it to work the same as the Sapphire #100259/1GL card? If either one would work, please let me know. thanks in advance for your help and input. PNugg...

The early XFX 4870 1 Gig is only one worth bothering with.

Trust me.

Had at least 4 names. ZDDC ZDDF ZHDC ZHDF...or something like those.
(from memory...which is failing)

The ZWxx are tripe. If you read around carefully you will see that they were subject to disappearing 2nd display like the 4890 and required a patch to work again.

Do you really want to spend time on every OS upgrade tracking down a patch to make 2nd display work? Do you really want to see the "Power Cable Not connected" warning on each boot?

Invest another day or two searching to get the ONLY maintenance free 48xx 1Gig. Or become a regular here looking for patches and fixes. Your call. The XFX 1 Gig 4870 EARLY cards are the ONLY ones that worked in 10.5.7 until 10.6.3 with no further maintenance, patches, fixes, refixes, plist edits, etc.

And to anyone else with this same question? It is answered here (and at least 10 times before) and won't be again.

Thank you Rominator...

Just so I'm clear, buying any one of those four that you mentioned would be okay, right? Because I have found one that goes by the model #HD-487A-ZHFC. Is that a good one to buy?

I know buying the HD-487A-ZDFC would be better, but I can't find those and don't know when that will ever be available.

Again, thank you for your input and help... PNugg...

The zhfc i have listed for sale or trade on the marketplace,

not sure what its worth, but if interested, let me know on the market place!!

Give me a moment I'm trying to get "confirmed" here on this site. It won't let me on yet. I will let you know here in a moment...

Hi j2048b, are you there? I'm starting to fall asleep and would like to touch base before I hit the sack, thanks...

Hello Rominator, still wanted to know something...

Dear Rominator, if I could find one of those four cards that would be fine to use on my Mac Tower right? Because the one I found had this model #HD-487A-ZHFC. Just wanted to make sure this one was okay to use and flash the same way the XFX HD-487A-ZDFC is done. Again thanks...

Well, if I get that card (the ZDFC it's going to cost me about $320.00. I guess it's better than that RIP OFF version Apple sells for $350.00 with HALF the RAM. Plus I got to get productive. I've been without my Mac for quite a few days now...

So Rominator, if you say that those OTHER 4 cards work (the ZDDC ZDDF ZHDC ZHDF; actually I think one is called ZHFC - the search engines corrected me on one of them) then I can get those for $100.00 less. So can you let me know that these cards too are safe to use or not? Thanks again Rominator. You've been very helpful...
