You could get the Crucial's CL10 RAM for less price than this slow CL13 so buying the one in the link would be very stupid.. unless you are planning to keep some of the Apple stock RAM there and just fit up the rest.. but in that case you should go with Hynix CL13 since that is what it has as default

I plan on adding to the 8GB to get 24.. or maybe I can only these CL10 16GB and that's it..

Why can't I mix CL10 with CL13?

It is a kit of 2x8GB modules.
And seriously, you really need 64GB??? I'm using RAMdisks and virtual machines all day, 32GB is far too much nowaday for me...
Sorry my bad, I mistakenly took it for 16gb module as the picture has only one stick where other two stick kits have picture of two sticks. I have 16gb RAM now on my 2011 iMac and there are occasions when I've run out of it with high resolution stuff on Adobe's software and it is really dreaded as it just crashes the program without ability to save. 32gb is most likely enough, but eventually it will run out too... well I guess by the time that happens 64 has decreased in price so much that it doesn't matter that you have to replace the old modules that you already spent extra money on... and if they bring TB3, USB-C and new generation GPUs next year I may update again... but I just couldn't wait anymore with my old 2011, if it was tad newer I would have skipped this update

Alesc,

if you have already ordered/plan on upgrading your 5k RAM, which route would you go?

Im thinking of ordering 2 of these today to get them in on time for my 5K delivery, but now hesitant to pull the trigger on any >.<

I would go with those too (I have this RAM in my late 2013 iMac ;) ). Removing the Apple RAM and putting 2 or 4x8GB of Crucial Ballistix.
Crucial is a very good brand (owned by Micron, a manufacturer of memory), and the 1866 MHz CL 10 is a very good price/performance compromise (2133 MHz is too expensive for the little performance gain).

Can someone pls confirm that is the right one.

I believe this particular model only comes in 204pin but according to their notes it says 240pin

Thanks
It looks like the one I bought and it is low voltage too so it should be the same. You can call them and ask if that 240 is just a typo. I should receive my RAM and iMac in two days hopefully so then I'll be able to tell first hand if it works or not

I posted my own thread but didn't get any answer.

Any thoughts on reusing my 4x8gb 1333MHz C9 ram from my 2011 iMac? Is there any real world difference between 1333 and 1866MHz?

Thanks!

Holy shxt!
I found that b&h just added a new page of the exact same model of this ram and the price is $10 higher.
Also the amazon, last time i saw it (sunday morning) its still $87.xx, it said out of stock. now its "in stock" again but also rose to $97...

these guys really know how to do business...

Yeah it looks like it is going to be around ~$95-100 now to get 16GB (2 x 8GB) of the Crucial CL13. The link you posted to B&H is for 240-pin (too long for the iMac which uses 204-pin). It looks like B&H is still selling the CL13 in 8GB sticks, just not in packs of two since those have been sold out/"discontinued".

Here is a link to the single 8GB sticks on B&H: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1121858-REG/crucial_ct102464bf186d_8gb_ddr3_sdram_memory.html

wow , almost buy the wrong one,
seems like i should do more research before i talk...:D

thank you for your help

I'm on the same boat my friend. I never had so much problem ordering Rams as this time. These I think are good but someone said these are CL10 and Apple is using CL13. I'm still waiting as well to see if mixing them is ok.

I'm confused as well as to which Ram to buy!!

According to a rep I talked to at OWC said CL 10 or 11 1866 & 1867 MHZ works & can be mixed with Apple ram and will provide the same performance that you get with the Apple Ram.

So anyone looking for ram to add with the Apple Ram this kit should do it. Correct me if I am wrong but this is what I was told.

Ok guys. I'm in the same boat as alexxk.

Which will give me better performance? A, B or C?

A- Use Apple's ram (8GB) in conjunction with the Crucial 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 PC3-14900 Unbuffered Non-ECC RAM Kit for a total of 24GB all CL13

OR

B-Use Apple's ram (8GB) in conjunction with the Crucial Ballistix Sport 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR3 PC3-14900 Memory Module Kit for a total of 24GB with a mix of CL 10 and CL 13

OR

C-REMOVE Apple's ram (8GB) and replace with the Crucial Ballistix Sport 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR3 PC3-14900 Memory Module Kit for a total of 16GB all CL 10's/.

If you have any other recommendations, please share.

I plan on adding to the 8GB to get 24.. or maybe I can only these CL10 16GB and that's it..

Why can't I mix CL10 with CL13?

So what I understand is the new CL10 will operate as CL13 if mixed for a total of 24gb
