This should work I am tempted to go with this since most of the ram on amazon is sold out or back ordered

Yeah it looks pretty good on paper. And pretty cheap too.

However, I was just wondering, would it be better to just keep my system to 16gb with this module of corsair vengeance and remove my apple ram as it will slow it down? I only need 16gb anyway. Or should I just keep the Apple ram I there to have 24gb but this Kingston module will be slowed down to the level of Apple. Hmm...

If you are sticking to 1866 MHz ram then leave the Apple ram. You won't notice any real difference at all.

I ordered 16Gb of ram in my iMac and then just ordered this 1866 corsair ram. I'll be adding that giving me a total of 32GB of ram. Once the 64gb kit price drops I'll spring for that.

Whatever you do you need to do it quick seems like the ram on Amazon is disappearing fast. There's only 7 corsair vengeance kits left at the 16Gb

It would have been lot cheaper if you just had the machine with 8gb and bought 4x8 yourself... even if you trashed the original RAM without selling it you'd still on plus side a lot. It literally cost me less to buy 4x8 2133 HyperX than it would have costed to boost from 8gb to 16gb of that slow hynix RAM directly with Apple. If I had gone with that Hynix or bit faster Samsung RAM, 32gb would have costed half of what it would have costed to boost from 8 to 16 with Apple. If your plan is to get 64gb then you could have just added the cheapest 2x8 to the original 2x4 making you 24 until you get that 64. I would guess the prices will drop as soon as skylakes become standard on all new computers. I was thinking of doing that first.. survive with 24 until can get 64 but since I'm in China the wait would be much longer than in U.S. Atm I can't find any 16gb sticks here, not even with an astronomical price... they simply do not exist here.

I just placed an order with one day shipping.. I should have it tomorrow... will report back if I have any issues... when I ordered, Amazon only had about 5 left... I see no reason why this shouldn't work and Corsair is as reputable brand as Kensington and Crucial

Are G-skill rip jaws just as reputable? I have found 16gb of 1866 for $117 Canadian.
Can I install these with my 2x4gb apple ram?

I ended up with hyperx impact 2133 ram. I hope it works right. I'm also of the mind that it is better to have 4 of the exact same sticks rather than mix even though it might work ok.

Is there room in the ram compartment to use the HyperX heat spreaders that come with the ram?

Quick RAM upgrade question. I will be getting my new iMac on Saturday, with 8GB Ram, have already purchased & received 32GB, should I install before I boot for the first time, or should I wait until after everything is up and working properly--Thanks

I just ordered the new 27" with stock RAM after reading this thread. Previously I ordered all of the ram from Apple. I asked the Apple representative if I could put in the faster 2133 ram. She put me on hold and came back with the following information. If I want to add the faster 2133 ram, it will work fine (and I believe she said faster) but I should remove the original Apple ram. If I am planning to keep the original Apple ram, then I should go with the same speed as Apple. Now I'm hoping that someone will be able to confirm that it is worth getting the faster ram in these new machines. Then I have to figure out where in Canada to get the ram. Thanks for reading.

She probably said that because all that would happen would be you would be wasting extra money for the extra speed which will get lowered to Apple's ram speed anyway. I'm pretty sure it will work just fine though. I'm sticking to 1866mhz just in case...as the performance gain is said to be minimal

I just got mine today and plan on installing before I even boot it up. I don't anticipate any issues.

I just got off the phone from Apple's technical support who told me something different this time. He said that ram must match the speed of Apple's ram i.e. 1867MHz or the machine will keep beeping (even if you take out the original ram that came with the machine).

I called Tech support just to make sure. This guy said you have to keep to the 1867MHz speed or the machine will keep beeping. To be on the safe side, I'm going to stick to the 1866 mhz speed as well.

Well we'll see soon enough. (I'll have my 2133 tomorrow) The 2133 ram should be able to downclock to 1866 if need be automatically and this new mac cpu does support the 2133, so maybe it will work whereas last years model would not. If anyone has any 2133 today with the new imac, please post.. if not . . . rma away...

I just spoke to a tech support guy at Apple and he insisted that the ram had to be PC3-12800 for starters in order to work in the new IMAC. Is this true?

Just when you thought this thread could not get any more confusing ;)

For people who ordered and RECEIVED their iMacs...

Ordered my iMac on Monday and set it to ship to my local mall for pickup. I decided I wanted it faster than that however, so I called and told the lady and she mistakenly cancelled my order. This was last night. It was promptly re-ordered by 7pm ET (4pm PT), and she gave me free next day shipping.

Now it says it'll be here between 23rd - 27th on Apple's site. Does it ACTUALLY take as long as the 27th? Or should I expect it on the 23rd?

So you are saying this won't work? It's pc3-15000...

The salesperson at Apple called me back and the only thing she could tell me for sure is that Apple's ram is PC3-12800. She would not guarantee that anything different would work. I think before I order any ram I will see what others who already have their new systems find out and report back to us.
