YES

It's Apple people, not you.... be patient and go to work, that's what I did, yes I have a bricked phone in my pocket, but I'll try again tonight when I get home, or tomorrow.... their activation servers can't handle the load.

it'll calm down eventually and your phone will activate.

be patient.

I am trying, but this is my only real phone. We have a metered line at the house, but I still need to have a way for people to contact me and me to contact others.

I've been at this since 9am, I'm a little frazzled right now.

i really wish i'd read these threads before trying to upgrade to 2.0. now i'm stuck doing the same thing as everyone else.

hopefully this mess will teach apple not to release a highly anticipated update AND a new phone on the same day??? Not smart.

Guys/Gals,

Although I still haven't been able to get activated. I switched my sim card from my old iPhone to my new one and it works!

I don't know what problems this may cause. Later when I hear that activations are going through consistently I will switch sim cards back and activate.

But the new iPhone is showing im on a 3G network.

that's exactly the same as me..

so i can use the phone, although it still seems to be in USA mode with numbers formatted incorrectly etc..

i just need itunes to activate so I can sync it up and retore my backup from my old iphone!!!

OK, new question/problem:

I synced up and all my apps are on the phone, but not my music, photos, etc. So I started to sync just those things, and it started to sync all my apps again! What gives?

I just had to call aT&T to have them forward my wireless number to my land line.

I ended up sticking my sim card into an old phone and using the old phone to forward it. I then stuck the sim card back into the iphone and am continuing to attempt activation.

The AT&T rep was great and helpful, they are aware of Apple's itunes server problems and expect to have it up at some point today.

is yours saying

we could not complete your itunes store request. the network connection times out
make sure you network is blah blah blah

is yalls saying that stuff?

this crap

this is really pissing me off.
im just gonna go put the stone cold stunner on steve jobs.

ahhhhhhh i really need my phone and i am getting frustrated. it acts like its about to load for a minute but then i get the error

I've got a weird problem..

I kept trying the activation, and all of a suddon my phone seemed to work, as i got a few text messages, and i could make phone calls. However, I still can't do anything on iTunes. iTunes hasn't seemed to notice that my phone has been activated. I get a -4 error every time.

Anybody else have this issue?

same here, just swapped sims from my old iphone to the 3G and everything works!

i love apple and all but after the initial problems last year when people had a hard time activating AT HOME, don't you think theyd be better prepared for this type of mayhem? I guess I'm just frustrated that my iphone isn't working for now

I was finally able to activate in iTunes after a bunch of tries, but now I've been waiting about an hour and have no service. Anyone else having this problem? I wonder how long it will take to get service. :-(

Yeah. I'm also stuck in the hump up updating my original iPhone to v2.0.
This is going to take a looong while.

I'm really in no rush to complete the process, but it would be nice having my phone back. :p

Any luck for anyone else?

yep.. so i'm just using my iphone at the moment on 3G :p

when the activation stuff works i guess i'll be able to use itunes and restore my iphone v1 backup to it.. but till then at least i have service and can make/receive calls

I tried that but didn't work for me :(

I have a brick now...

Crap!!!! iPhone 2.0 Brick. Error -9853, Error -4. Why, oh why oh why, didn't I wait!

Nice job, Steve, well thought out. Oh yeah, MobileMe is a real hit, too. Oh wait, that doesn't work either!! I downloaded the 2.0 update and got a nice bricked phone. WTH?

Wouldn't it have worked better to release 2.0 with the iTunes update? Then 1st gen iphone owners would be done today and only the new 3g owners would be crushing the iTunes site. Yes, very well thought out.

I was in line since 5 AM, my store only got 25 I was 22. They only had 7 16 gigs, so it was an 8 gig for me (don't really care...i saved $100), didn't get in the store till 9:30, at 10 they told me to go home and do it, now i am still here with a brick...i mean iphone 3g, woo hoo! lol
