i love apple and all but after the initial problems last year when people had a hard time activating AT HOME, don't you think theyd be better prepared for this type of mayhem? I guess I'm just frustrated that my iphone isn't working for now

Let's not over-exxagerate.
This is not mayhem. A natural disaster is mayhem.
This is merely an inconvenience for most of us.

YES

It's Apple people, not you.... be patient and go to work, that's what I did, yes I have a bricked phone in my pocket, but I'll try again tonight when I get home, or tomorrow.... their activation servers can't handle the load.

it'll calm down eventually and your phone will activate.

be patient.

well said sir!!

FINALLY!

After trying for 2 hours, now I get through the activation in iTunes...

Now I'm waiting for it to restore my musics and videos to the phone, which is also super long...

Literally exact same story except our store had 40 and I was number 40 in line. But I got an 8gb, don't really mind though, but i want to use it so badly

Got it working!

So, after camping out for a sleepless 22 hours, the past 2 hours have been very stressful. Going by what others are saying, just click on the iTunes Store, and click back on your iPhone. Don't touch anything else in iTunes, just let it sit. When you get an error message, repeat. Just keep trying, it worked for me!

Hopefully Apple can acknowledge what they have done to the most dedicated fans....

This is really strange. I too was stuck on the Accessing iTunes Store page, and then all of a sudden i start hearing text messages come through. and sure enough, I'm at the home screen on the 3G. I can make calls just fine and everything, but I never went through the iTunes activation process. Anyone else experience this?

Edit: iTunes will not let me sync or mess with the phone at all as it does not realize it's been activated for service

no activation

south florida.

man this sucks. woke up, stood in line, sweated my ass off, #90 in line, waited more, went to work for a couple hours, went back, still wasn't my turn, then...finally i'm in the store, 4 1/2 hours to process the 89 people before me, 20 min later i have my 8GB iPhone, there sold out of the 16GB, went home, plugged into iTunes, NO ACTIVATION AFTER 30 MIN, went back to work with a $199.99 paper weight! COME ON APPLE!

i will try when i get home at 5:45. fingers crossed.

i called at&t and told them i better not be charged until i have access. i feel naked without any cell phone access. they couldn't transfer my calls to my office or reactivate my old nokia until the servers caught up.

Yeah, I updated my phone, and it connected so I can use all the new features. But my newest problem was that I saw it deleted my music, so I need to connect back with the iTunes store before I can add anything onto it.

I'm sure this problem will be fixed by tomorrow. Hopefully.

Are you guys getting text messages and using the phone or actually getting it activated?

Do you have to wait until you get the message error to retry? Or if you get the sideways barber shop pole for more than a minute, should you just stop and retry?

I am unbelievably frustrated.

They're laughing at us on MSNBC, just for the inability to activate in store. They don't even know the punch line yet.

Well, after 4 hrs offline the iPhone activated on it's own but I still can't get access to iTunes Store per previous problems. Now 'rebuilding' the phone via MobileMe.....thank God for small mercies...

Apple: learn from this mistake please !

This happened 1st gen. apparently they do not learn from mistakes very well.

Did you let it "time out" before clicking from music to iphone again, or just click over and over?
